Senior Electrical Systems Engineer – Body Controls

What You’ll Do

• Define and drive the electrical architecture for body control subsystems, leading trade studies to optimize cost, weight, and performance in alignment with the long‑term vehicle roadmap.
• Author detailed hardware and functional specifications to ensure components meet vehicle behavior definitions and user stories.
• Lead end‑to‑end integration of body controls hardware and software on electrical test assets, including benches, bucks, lab cars, and vehicles.
• Translate high‑level program objectives into clear, actionable requirements for suppliers and internal firmware teams.
• Own logical and physical interface documentation, including block diagrams, boundary diagrams, and network artifacts.
• Serve as the primary technical point of contact for complex system‑level issues, applying first‑principles thinking to root‑cause analysis across hardware, software, and network interfaces.
• Develop and execute comprehensive test plans to validate firmware stability, performance, and edge‑case behavior, including low‑power operating modes.
• Partner closely with software integration and architecture teams to align software requirements with electrical hardware specifications throughout all vehicle development phases.
• Apply functional safety principles (ISO 26262) to complex vehicle subsystems, contributing to safety analyses and defining robust validation strategies to support vehicle homologation.

Required Skills & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or equivalent practical experience with demonstrated exceptional ability.
• 7+ years of experience designing and integrating complex electrical systems, with a proven record of taking products from concept through production.
• 7+ years of experience working with vehicle network protocols, including CAN, LIN, and Automotive Ethernet.
• Strong electrical hardware fundamentals with hands‑on experience using test equipment such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, signal generators, and power supplies.
• Experience with requirements management tools (e.g., JAMA or equivalent).
• Experience creating and modifying network interface description files.
• Working knowledge of systems development, vehicle architecture, functional safety, networking, and diagnostics processes.
• Experience developing and integrating body control hardware in both prototype and production environments.

Nice to Have

• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• Highly collaborative mindset with strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience with Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment (HARA).
• Hands‑on experience with hardware bring‑up, system debugging, and in‑vehicle troubleshooting.
• Working knowledge of hardware‑to‑software interfaces, including RTOS and driver development.
• Ability to perform cost‑benefit analyses and technical trade studies, and present recommendations to senior leadership.
• Experience working with electrical or electro‑mechanical systems involving networked microcontrollers and embedded software.

Compensation : $80-$90/hour
