MADISON COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM JOB DESCRIPTION (Anticipated Vacancies) TITLE: LITERACY COACH REPORTS TO: Building Principal 190 Days QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors Degree or higher
- Valid Georgia teaching certificate
- Minimum of five years of documented successful classroom teaching or literacy intervention experience in PK-5th grades
- Knowledge of scientifically-based reading research, special expertise in quality reading instruction and intervention dyslexia-specific interventions, and data analysis.
- Ability to model lessons and lead professional development sessions
- Success in working collaboratively with other professional staff on instructional issues
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Success in teaching based on student achievement
- Commitment to continuous professional development
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
- Will spend no less than 70% of the school day in classrooms working directly with students and teachers, engaged in coaching cycles including modeling, delivering side-by-side support, and providing actionable feedback
- Coaching educators using nonevaluative, evidence-based practices, including modeling instruction, analyzing instructional practice and data, providing actionable feedback, and delivering side-by-side classroom support to improve instructional practices and student outcomes
- Collaborating with the Elementary Curriculum Director and School Principal to create a strategic plan for literacy coaching
- Prioritizing time for teachers, activities, and roles that will have the greatest impact on student reading achievement, such as coaching and mentoring in classrooms
- Analyzing student data, including screening, diagnostic, and progress monitoring data, to inform instruction, grouping, and intervention within a multi-tiered system of supports framework
- Synthesizing student performance data and educator practice data to establish coaching goals and design targeted, needs-based support for educators
- Supporting the implementation and monitoring of evidence-based literacy curricula and instructional materials with fidelity, ensuring evidence-based literacy practices
- Demonstrating competency through approved, periodic, practice-based assessment that verifies his or her ability to apply the science of reading, learning science, and instructional science to deliver explicit, systematic, evidence-based literacy instruction directly with students
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records and reports as required by supervisor
- Differentiating support for teachers based upon demonstrated need
- Meeting regularly with teacher and/or grade-level teams to review data, guide planning, and ensure that literacy strategies are used effectively in the classroom
- Collaborating with administration to support parent and community meetings in support of literacy
- Designing and facilitating job-embedded professional learning aligned to identified instructional needs and school/district literacy priorities
- Other duties as assigned by administrator
