Chicago, IL, 500 W Madison St, Suite 3105, Chicago, IL 60661, USA Geologist/Hydrogeologist role is tasked with basic foundational work in the fields of geology and hydrogeology. This role primarily involves carrying out routine tasks, solving elementary problems, and learning and applying fundamental skills and knowledge in geology, hydrogeology, geochemistry, and geophysics. The role is carried out under close supervision and guidance of experienced colleagues and supervisors. Responsibilities Assist in field investigations, including water and soil sampling. Assist with basic well logging and field data collection tasks in a supervised setting. Help in the examination and interpretation of geological, hydrogeological, geophysical, and geochemical data. Follow all safety protocols and procedures related to the role. Maintain and update data logs of all performed tasks. Flexibility to adapt and execute various additional assignments based on evolving needs. Skills and Competencies Basic understanding of geology, hydrogeology, geophysics, and geochemistry. Proficiency in using sampling equipment. Basic analytical skills to interpret geological data and information. Basic proficiency in using software and tools associated with geological studies. Experience Typically, a minimum of 0-2 years of related work experience in geology and hydrogeology or related field. Encouraged to certify in the SMS framework in the first six months of the role. Education A bachelor’s degree in geology, hydrogeology, or related field, or equivalent experience is required. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Computer-Aided Design (AutoCAD) is preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel for data organization and reporting. Demonstrated ability to interpret maps and navigate varied terrain effectively. Capability to safely and routinely operate pumps, hand tools, and power tools in a field environment, including the ability to troubleshoot equipment issues as they arise. Foundational knowledge of applicable regulations, including an understanding of local, state, and federal compliance requirements. Strong technical writing skills. Willingness and ability to travel up to approximately 40%, with increased travel during the peak field season (late March through October). Valid driver’s license. Comfort and confidence driving on varied and occasionally challenging terrain. Salary Range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee’s primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education. These ranges may be modified in the future.
