This role combines deep land and title expertise with analytical skills to support corporate development decisions. The ideal candidate understands land, contracts, mineral ownership, leasehold positions, and regulatory frameworks, and can translate those insights into commercial implications for asset valuations and deal structuring. This position works cross-functionally with Land, Legal, Finance, Engineering, Geoscience, and executive leadership to drive high-quality strategic assessments.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed leasehold, mineral, and working interest evaluations to support asset acquisitions and divestitures
- Analyze ownership structures, title defects, depth severances, royalty burdens, acreage continuity, and development restrictions
- Assess and map lease terms, expirations, obligations, shut-in provisions, and Pugh clauses to quantify exposure and operational flexibility
- Review and interpret JOAs, PSAs, AMIs, Farmouts, ROW agreements, unit agreements, and other land-related contracts to identify commercial risks and opportunities
- Evaluate regulatory filings, pooling applications, and spacing/unitization impacts to support technical and financial models
- Provide land-driven insights for valuation models, including net revenue interest (NRI) impacts, drilling obligations, HBP status, and lease expiration risk
- Support due diligence efforts, including data room review, contract analysis, acreage validation, and coordination with external advisors
- Collaborate with engineers and geologists to integrate land constraints into production forecasts, type curves, and development timing assumptions
- Assist in preparing investment memos, deal summaries, and executive presentations outlining land considerations that influence deal value
- Identify strategic opportunities such as leasehold bolt-ons, mineral aggregations, JV structures, and commercial agreements that enhance asset value
- Maintain and analyze lease and ownership data using tools such as GIS, land databases, and spatial mapping platforms
- Develop data-driven insights from large land datasets, including acreage maps, lease terms, encumbrances, and title chains
- Partner with data teams to improve land data accuracy, workflows, and integration with corporate development models
- Utilize analytical software (Excel, SQL, Spotfire, Power BI) to support valuation and decision-making
- Work closely with Legal, Operations, Engineering, Finance, and Corporate Development teams to ensure comprehensive asset evaluations
- Monitor competitive activity, regulatory developments, and industry trends that impact deal flow or land value
- Support negotiation strategies by identifying key land provisions affecting deal economics and risk
Job Specific Skills

- Excellent communication skills with experience delivering executive-level presentations
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deal-driven environment with multiple concurrent evaluations
- Experience in corporate development, investment analysis, or transaction support roles
- Familiarity with financial modeling concepts (NRI impact, acreage valuation, drilling economics)
- Working knowledge of SQL, geospatial analysis, or data visualization tools (Power BI, Spotfire, Tableau)
- Experience with unconventional resource plays, minerals/M&A, or multi-basin evaluations
- Strong negotiation skills and comfort interacting with internal and external stakeholders
