Lead Paralegal

Schotter Millican, a small but high-volume, busy claimant-side workers' compensation law firm, is seeking a Lead Paralegal to manage our complex workers' compensation case files and oversee a team of junior paralegals. This position will act as a critical bridge between attorneys, partners, and the support staff to ensure compliance and office efficiency. Location In person at our office located in Forest Hills, Queens Core Competencies Team Leadership: Assign workloads, train junior paralegals, and coordinate schedules to meet strict deadlines. Case Management: Intakes, oversee large-scale document review, track settlements and third-party referrals, retrieve and upload medical records, and prepare cases for hearings. Attorney & Client Liaison: Serves as the primary point of contact between the legal team, clients, and external experts Self-Starter: motivated by a genuine desire to help injured workers Flexible and Adaptable: Able to adapt quickly in high-pressure situations Key Responsibilities Communicate effectively with injured workers to help start their cases Arrange medical appointments for injured clients Provide updates on cases to clients and attorneys Retrieve and analyze medical records and upload them to appropriate databases Use computer software to locate answers to client, attorney, or outside parties. Monitor claims to ensure timely submission of deadlines are met. Update claimants and attorneys on case status and next steps Build relationships with medical providers, Workers Compensation Board personnel, unions, opposing counsel, insurance carriers, other law firms, and legal professionals. Identify potential in cases to refer to other practice areas and track those referrals Schedule calls using firm calendar software. Complete other tasks associated with efficient case management and progress Skills Meticulous attention to detail is essential Strong interpersonal and communication skills are a must Able to develop rapport and trust in others is highly valued Able to multitask and adapt to shifting priorities Organized, self-starter, and self-motivated Able to take initiative and not wait for direction Conversational Spanish, Polish, or other foreign languages is a plus Education/Experience Some college and/or office experience Law firm or other professional office experience Sales and customer service experience is a plus Experience handling workers' compensation cases is ideal Top candidates will know about Section 32 settlements and Schedule Loss of Use awards Salary and benefits $45/hr. based on experience, plus Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K, Paid holidays, Opportunity for advancement and growth Schotter Millican is committed to hiring a diverse workforce and providing a safe, inclusive workplace.
