Patient Care Tech

A Patient Care Tech (PCT) at ProMedica plays a vital role in the health and safety of our patients every day. From caring for patients to performing clerical services, a PCT helps all members of the ProMedica health care team while complying with standards, procedures, and policies. A PCT is a genuine ambassador for ProMedica as they interact with patients, visitors, and co-workers.

The PCT assists the patient care team with exams, procedures, obtaining patient data and other processes related to direct patient care. The PCT also ensures an appropriate stock of supplies and equipment is available and functioning properly.

In this role, you will perform tasks related to scheduling procedures, coordinating admission as well as discharge and transfer processes. PCTs answer phones, take messages, and direct calls. You will also pick up and deliver specimens, documents, and other items to contribute to operational efficiency.

Accountabilities

• Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development.
• Delivers appropriate direct patient care.
• Completes hourly rounds on patients.
• Collects patient data as directed.
• Assists in preparing patients, physically and psychologically for treatments.
• Performs a variety of clerical duties.
• Maintains a safe, secure, and clean environment.
• Safeguards hospital supplies, property, and equipment.
• Responds to beeper calls and code situations.
• Investigates and reports to the director/supervisor promptly.
• Assists with orientation of new personnel.
• Has a commitment to the continuous improvement of service.
• Uses appropriate methods to communicate with patient and/or family/significant other.
• Transports patients to and from department.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
• Women Center - Notary Public designation for completion of birth certificates.

Requirements

• Education: High school graduate
• Skills: Clerical skills, computer skills and ability to use office equipment. Experience or coursework in medical terminology required or pass medical terminology test. Ability to pass competencies of the position. Must have an even temperament and pleasant personality. Ability to handle frequent contacts with a variety of individuals. Maintain emotional stability in variable situations. Facilitates interdepartmental communications and relationships. Effective communication skills and service-oriented attitude.
• Certification: STNA certification required for those hired after 3/26/2016. Any employee hired prior to 3/26/2016 will be grandfathered w/o STNA certification. CPR certified.
