Security Officer
To be fully engaged in providing security services to ensure the safety and security of associates, patients, and visitors of Health First facilities.
Responsibilities include:
- Internal and external security patrols on foot or in vehicle of facility assigned, including Emergency Department of hospital facility to deter criminal activity and misconduct.
- Responding to all emergencies/disasters which may require the officer to remain on property until the emergency/disaster is terminated. Making appropriate notifications on campus as directed, coordinating law enforcement, medical and/or fire assistance.
- Proactively watching for irregular or unusual conditions that may create security concerns or safety hazards.
- Being a first responder for emergency codes, alarms, and other emergent situations to escort visitors and contractors, secure ingress and egress, and protect private information.
- Sounding alarms or calling police/fire department in case of fire or presence of unauthorized persons.
- Warning violators of rule infractions such as loitering, smoking, or carrying prohibited articles.
- Monitoring entrances and exits and permitting authorized persons to enter property.
- Observing departing personnel to protect against theft of company property and ensuring authorized removal of property is conducted appropriately.
- Conducting patient escorts, patient watches, and providing safety escorts.
- Assisting and/or transporting deceased to morgue.
- Completing required shift logs and reports; complying with site post orders and Health First policies and procedures.
- Investigating and preparing reports on accidents, incidents, and suspicious activities.

- Working designated alternate hours and performing other responsibilities as needed.
- Maintaining required certifications, licensing, weapon qualifications, and training to achieve professional competency as appropriate for the position.
Minimum qualifications include:
- Education: Must meet at least one of the following education or experience requirements:
- Graduate of Police/Corrections Academy.
- Associates degree or above in Criminal Justice.
- Active Military (Four [4] year term of service minimum).
- Law Enforcement experience.
- Serve in Elite Military Forces, Military Police, or Combat Arms.
- Work Experience: None
- Licensure:
- Class D Security Officer Licensure in the State of Florida.
- Class G Security Officer Licensure in the State of Florida.
- Valid Drivers License and clean Motor Vehicle Record and maintained.
- Certification: At least one (1) of the following certifications within thirty (30) days of start date:
- American Heart Association (AHA) Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED course OR
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS) Healthcare ProviderCompletion Card.
- Work Experience In Lieu of Education: One (1) year verifiable security officer experience.
- Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
- Expected completion of Crisis Prevention Training within first 90 days.
- Physical ability to deal with or subdue mental health patients in crisis.
- Must be willing to carry out tasks that may require entering the hospital morgue and the roof-top helipad.
- Ability to operate radio or telephone equipment and/or console monitors.
- Ability to interact cordially and communicate with the public.
- Display exceptional customer service and communication skills.
- Active listening skills.
- Ability to assess and evaluate situations effectively.
- Ability to identify critical issues quickly and accurately.
- Attention to detail.
Physical requirements include:
- Physically agile; requires walking, standing, running, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, or crouching majority of the shift.
- Heavy work that frequently includes lifting or moving objects up to 100 pounds or more with or without assistance.
- May require moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces, including reaching out and above shoulders or overhead.
- May lift, turn, pull, push, or ambulate people and/or equipment with or without assistance up to 90% of the assigned shift.
- May be exposed to inside environments and outside environments with extreme temperatures, air contamination, dirt, grease, or water.
- May require working with biohazards such as blood/body fluids and airborne particles following OSHA and CDC guidelines.
- May operate various types of manual and motorized equipment used in the transportation of materials.
- May be exposed to intense noise or vibration and awkward or confined work position.
- Communicating with others to exchange information.
- Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform tasks.
- Workspace may vary from open to confined.
- May require travel to various facilities within and beyond county perimeter; may require use of personal vehicle.
