Senior Accountant, Revenue

POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Accountant, Revenue is responsible for the accurate and timely recording, analysis, and reporting of revenue across Discovery Senior Living's portfolio of approximately 450 and growing communities spanning 40+ states. Reporting to the Shared Services Controller, this role serves as the primary subject matter expert for senior living revenue streams including resident fees, ancillary services, Medicaid, Medicare, and other payer sources. The Senior Accountant, Revenue partners closely with community business offices, regional operations teams, and financial systems to ensure revenue is recorded in accordance with GAAP and company policy within Yardi 8.

Remote & Hybrid Work:

The position will start remote but then transition to onsite work in Dallas three days per week, working alongside the accounting and asset management teams with regular exposure to senior leadership.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Revenue Recognition and Recording

• Oversee and perform the accurate, timely recording of revenue for 450+ senior living communities across all DSL brands and management entities within Yardi 8.
• Prepare and post monthly revenue journal entries including resident fee income, ancillary charges, Medicare, Medicaid, private pay, and other payer sources.
• Review and reconcile the resident accounts receivable sub-ledger to the general ledger monthly.
• Ensure revenue recognition is applied in compliance with ASC 606 and company accounting policies.
• Investigate and resolve revenue variances and discrepancies in coordination with community business offices.

Month-End Close and Reporting

• Lead revenue components of the monthly close process, ensuring deadlines are met across a high-volume, multi-entity environment.
• Prepare and distribute revenue flux and trend analysis for review by the Shared Services Controller and finance leadership.
• Produce revenue reporting packages and schedules to support financial statement preparation and management reporting.
• Maintain and reconcile deferred revenue, rent receivable, and ancillary income accounts.

Payer and Contract Management Support

• Maintain rate schedules and payer contract data in Yardi 8 to ensure billing accuracy across communities.
• Collaborate with community business office teams to resolve billing discrepancies, collection issues, and census-to-revenue reconciliations.
• Support revenue audits and respond to inquiries from internal audit, external auditors, and ownership groups.

Systems and Process Improvement

• Leverage Yardi 8 reporting modules and Excel to develop efficient, scalable revenue reporting tools and reconciliation workpapers.
• Identify and recommend process improvements to strengthen controls, reduce manual effort, and support portfolio growth.
• Partner with the Director, Financial Systems on Yardi 8 enhancements relevant to revenue and billing modules.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position is an individual contributor role with no direct reports. The Senior Accountant may provide functional guidance to junior accounting staff, community-level accounting personnel, or cross-functional teams as assigned.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in senior living, healthcare, hospitality, or multi-site real estate operations.
• Experience with revenue accounting, accounts receivable, or payer billing in a high-volume, multi-entity environment strongly preferred.
• Proficiency in Yardi 8 or comparable property/senior living accounting platform required.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and financial modeling.
• Working knowledge of GAAP and ASC 606 revenue recognition standards.

ENVIRONMENTAL ADAPTABILITY

• Works primarily indoors in a climate-controlled office setting.
• May participate in meetings across multiple locations and time zones.
• Occasional travel to community sites or regional offices may be required.
• Ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time.
• Frequently required to use hands, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.
• The Team Member must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
