Job Description

The Maintenance Mechanic performs routine and preventive maintenance on industrial machinery and equipment within an automotive manufacturing environment. This role focuses on troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, low-voltage electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems to minimize downtime and ensure safe, reliable operation. The Maintenance Mechanic also supports equipment installation, maintains accurate maintenance records in alignment with auditing standards, and uses a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to plan, document, and improve maintenance activities.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on production machinery and equipment to ensure optimal performance and reduce the risk of unexpected failures.
• Develop, follow, and refine preventive maintenance schedules to extend equipment lifespan and improve reliability.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical issues involving gearboxes, pumps, motors, bearings, cylinders, and chain-driven conveyors.
• Troubleshoot and repair pneumatic and hydraulic systems, including hoses, valves, cylinders, and related components.
• Conduct low-voltage (24V) electrical troubleshooting and repairs while adhering to appropriate safety precautions.
• Interpret and work from mechanical and electrical schematics to identify faults and implement effective repairs.
• Assist with the installation, setup, and commissioning of new machinery and equipment, ensuring proper operation and compliance with safety standards.
• Perform welding tasks as needed to support equipment repair, modification, and maintenance activities.
• Maintain accurate, detailed records of maintenance work, repairs, parts usage, and equipment performance in accordance with auditing standards.
• Use and update the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to log work orders, schedule maintenance, and improve maintenance processes.
• Monitor equipment performance and proactively identify opportunities for reliability and efficiency improvements.
• Follow all workplace safety procedures, including lockout/tagout and electrical safety practices, to protect personnel and equipment.
• Collaborate with production and other maintenance team members to prioritize work, minimize downtime, and support continuous operation.
• Respond to equipment breakdowns promptly, diagnose root causes, and implement effective corrective actions.
• Support shift-based operations by performing maintenance tasks during night and third-shift schedules as assigned.

Essential Skills

• Hands-on industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills with hydraulics and pneumatics systems.
• Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing gearboxes, bearings, chain-driven conveyors, pumps, and motors.
• Ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical components such as cylinders, bearings, and gearboxes.
• Experience with low-voltage (24V) electrical systems and related troubleshooting.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical schematics.
• Knowledge of and adherence to electrical safety precautions and general industrial safety practices.
• Experience performing preventive maintenance on production machinery and equipment.
• Capability to perform welding for repair and maintenance tasks.
• Competence in using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to document and manage maintenance activities.
• Ability to work safely and effectively in an automotive manufacturing environment.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose complex mechanical and electrical issues.
• Attention to detail in maintaining accurate maintenance and repair records.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous experience in automotive or high-volume manufacturing environments.
• Familiarity with chain-driven conveyor systems and their maintenance requirements.
• Comfort working on night or third-shift schedules.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including production and quality.
• Strong organizational skills to manage multiple work orders and priorities.
• Willingness to participate in periodic fit testing and comply with grooming standards as required by safety protocols.

Work Environment

This role is based in an automotive manufacturing environment with exposure to production machinery, conveyors, and industrial equipment. Tools required for the job are provided. The position follows shift-based schedules, including a 6:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. shift with a rotation of 3 days on, 4 days off, followed by 4 days on and 4 days off, as well as openings on a third shift from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. The workplace emphasizes safety, including an annual fit test and a requirement to be clean shaven to ensure proper use of safety equipment. The environment is fast-paced, hands-on, and focused on maintaining continuous, reliable production.

This is a Permanent position based out of Greenfield, IN.

The pay range for this position is $52000.00 - $60320.00/yr.

This is a fully onsite position in Greenfield,IN.
