About this position
Florida Southern College announces a 9-month full-time, tenure-track faculty position for the Exercise Science program to start in August 2026 . The position requires an educational background and professional experience in the exercise science field. The applicant should excel in teaching at the undergraduate level and possess the ability to teach a broad tenet of classes within the Exercise Science program. This faculty position reports to the Exercise Science Program Director and to the Dean of the School of Nursing and Health Sciences with expectations to:
- Instruct (12) undergraduate credits per semester in a broad tenet of different Exercise Science courses to support the major such as but not limited to: essentials of strength and conditioning, kinesiology, sports nutrition, exercise physiology, introductory courses, and research in exercise performance. Additional opportunities to pursue personal teaching interests may be available as directed by program needs;
- Demonstrate collaboration, collegiality, and support for program excellence;
- Promote and implement high impact pedagogical practices to support engaged teaching and learning;
- Conduct research/scholarly activities;
- Supervise student practical field experiences;
- Conduct additional faculty duties such as but not limited to: academic advising, engaging in professional and community service, and participating in faculty governance through service on Program, School, and College committees.
Qualifications:
- Doctoral degree, or ABD near completion, in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Biomechanics or closely related field. If an ABD candidate is selected, completion of the doctorate degree is required by the end of the first full academic year;
- Professional certification from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (Certified Strength and Conditioning Association; CSCS) is required. Additional certifications from the American College of Sports Medicine and/or or similar professional organizations is recommended;
- Demonstrated potential for research and scholarly activity;
- Industry experience across diverse populations is preferred;
- A minimum of two (2) years' teaching experience at the college level is preferred.

The Defined Contribution Retirement Plan is a 403(b) plan in which the college automatically contributes 7% of the eligible employee's earnings into a retirement fund whether the employee chooses to participate or not. The account has a comprehensive investment portfolio and allows the employee to control their investment choices. At 6 years of service, the employer contribution amount is elevated to 10%.
