Unit Profile

Unit Name: 6A Med-Surg/Oncology

Number of Beds: 31

Patient Ratios: 6:1

Unit Staffing: Unit secretaries available from 6 AM to 10 PM; techs available on all shifts

Equipment and Documentation

Documentation System: Meditech

Scheduling Requirements

12-hour shifts with rotating weekends
Floating policy includes potential shifts in other Med-Surg and Tele units

Patient Experience Requirements

Candidates should have a minimum of one year of acute care experience.

Certifications Required

BLS (Basic Life Support)
ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification

Skills Required

Excellent physical assessment and documentation skills
Experience caring for acute care stroke patients
Strong time management and critical thinking abilities
Well-established A.I.D.E.T. (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank You) behaviors
Understanding of core measures and prevention of Hospital-Acquired Conditions (HACs) and Hospital-Acquired Infections (HAIs)

Advanced Skills (Preferred)

Experience with chemotherapy administration

Dress Code

Required uniform: Ceil blue scrubs with white or ceil blue jacket if worn.

Unit Guidelines and Policies

Unit-specific policies and guidelines will be provided during the onboarding process.

Awards and Recognition

This unit has been recognized for its outstanding performance and is designated as a Unit of Distinction.
