THIS IS A HYBRID POSITION REQUIRING 2 DAYS PER WEEK (TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY) IN-PERSON IN OUR WASHINGTON, DC OFFICE EACH WEEK. JOB SUMMARY
This is a professional position. The Government Affairs Associate is accountable for monitoring, analyzing, and influencing legislation that is relevant to the osteopathic profession. The individual will help establish and assist in fostering relationships between the Association and members of Congress, allopathic and osteopathic physician organizations, and member organizations of the greater house of medicine. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Education:
This position requires the ability to work out of the office locally (up to 10%) and out of state (up to 5%). This work may include weekday and weekend travel. Extended workday hours may be necessary around major meetings and other high-volume work periods.
Physical requirements include the ability to remain in a stationary position, the ability to move supplies and equipment up to 25 pounds and the ability to operate office equipment.
Salary Range: $95,000 - $105,000 Annually

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Educate legislators and staff about the osteopathic profession, and the association's position on issues that will impact the profession, such as physician payment reform, patients access to care, graduate medical education, and student loan accessibility, to name a few.
- Establish and maintain bipartisan liaison with members of Congress, key congressional staff, physician groups, and other relevant organizations.
- Monitor, evaluate, and lobby legislation that has the potential to negatively or positively impact osteopathic profession, and draft letters in support or opposition to introduced or proposed legislation.
- Draft bill summaries, issue briefs, hearing testimonies as needed and directed.
- Provide updates and reports to AOA staff, Bureau on Federal Health Programs, and Osteopathic Advocacy Network as directed.
- Identify opportunities to partner with AOA's divisional societies and specialty colleges on advocacy efforts.
- Develop resource materials (one pagers, policy proposals, etc.) for staff and member advocates to use in support of AOA public policy and advocacy efforts.
- Provide support as necessary to the Vice President of Government Affairs and Public Policy.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree, minimum.
- Minimum of three years in the health care industry.
- 2 - 5 years Capitol Hill/lobbying experience is preferred, and/or experience with a health care trade association.
- Knowledge of Congressional procedures is highly preferred.
- High proficiency with computer programs and applications including MS Office, Zoom, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Proven ability to prioritize multiple projects.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills that demonstrate the ability to simplify complex information and craft messages for a wide range of audiences.
- Ability to interact tactfully with professionals on all levels within the association.
- Ability to handle confidential material, deal with sensitive situations and exhibit a high degree of attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment is required.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, team orientation, and ability to collaborate within and across teams.
