Sparrow Company is searching for a detail-oriented Quality Assurance Technician to support a food manufacturing facility during its peak production season. This position is responsible for monitoring production processes, conducting quality inspections and laboratory testing, ensuring compliance with food safety regulations, and maintaining product quality throughout the manufacturing process. The ideal candidate has experience in food manufacturing, quality assurance, or quality control and is committed to maintaining the highest standards of food safety and product quality.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Monitor production lines to ensure products meet established quality and food safety standards
  • Conduct routine inspections and record production measurements, observations, and test results
  • Place non-conforming products on hold and stop production lines when necessary to prevent quality or food safety issues
  • Perform laboratory testing, including pH, solids, water activity (aW), viscosity, salt content, and other required quality analyses
  • Assist with maintaining and implementing food safety and quality programs, including HACCP, GMPs, sanitation procedures, production guidelines, and quality standards
  • Conduct daily plant inspections to verify compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), sanitation requirements, and food safety procedures
  • Maintain accurate, organized, and legible quality assurance records and documentation
  • Collect and evaluate product samples related to customer complaints and assist with investigations
  • Assist with new employee orientation and training on food safety and quality procedures
  • Notify supervisors of equipment repairs, adjustments, or process issues that may impact food safety or product quality
  • Ensure compliance with color-coded container policies and other food safety procedures throughout production areas
  • Identify, document, and report food safety, quality, and process non-conformances
  • Prevent further processing or shipment of non-conforming products until corrective actions have been implemented
  • Collaborate with production, sanitation, and management teams to maintain compliance with food safety regulations and quality standards
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to food safety, quality assurance, and manufacturing processes
  • Perform other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED required; coursework in Food Science, Biology, Microbiology, Quality Assurance, or a related field preferred
  • One (1) year of experience in quality assurance, quality control, or food manufacturing preferred
  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), HACCP, food safety regulations, sanitation procedures, and quality systems preferred
  • Experience performing laboratory testing, product inspections, or quality documentation is a plus
  • Ability to accurately complete inspection reports, production records, and quality documentation
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to food safety and product quality
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic computer applications
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift
  • Ability to work in hot, humid, and fast-paced food manufacturing environments
  • Frequently bend, reach, stoop, climb, and perform repetitive movements
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and comply with all food safety and sanitation requirements
