Senior Tax Associate Callow Consulting | Baltimore–Washington Area (100% Remote — U.S.) $100,000–$150,000 Salary + Bonus + Full Benefits | Full-Time This Isn’t Your Typical Tax Job Most tax roles feel like factories. You’re one of 40 preparers. Everything is siloed. You rarely speak with clients. You’re buried in basic 1040s, and no one trusts you to final-sign anything complex until you’ve been there for seven years. Tax season is brutal, the off-season is slow, and “tax planning” is something only the Partners get to do. We do the opposite. Callow Consulting is a growing, full-service CPA firm specializing in individuals, professionals, estates and trusts, and small businesses. We’re looking for a Senior Tax Associate who is ready to own complex work from day one. You’ll have the authority to prepare and final-sign returns, represent clients before the IRS, review the work of others, and proactively identify tax-planning opportunities. This is a true Senior role. You won’t be micromanaged. You’ll be trusted. What You’ll Do On a typical day, you will: Prepare and final-sign complex 1040s , including multi-state returns, rentals, Schedule C, S-corporation, and partnership returns Perform final review on returns prepared by others and coach team members Identify and execute proactive tax-planning opportunities , including: Bunching strategies Roth conversions Entity selection QBI optimization Cost segregation And other advanced planning strategies Represent clients in IRS audits, collections matters, Offers in Compromise (OIC), installment agreements, and penalty-abatement cases Work directly with high-net-worth individuals, business owners, trustees, and their attorneys Explain the “why” behind tax positions , not simply the “how” What We Need These are non-negotiable requirements : Active CPA license 2+ years of final sign-off authority on 1040s and small-business returns 3+ years preparing and/or reviewing 100+ returns annually , with full-cycle experience rather than seasonal-only preparation Proven experience personally handling IRS notices, audits, or collections cases Ability to confidently explain and defend the reasoning behind tax positions No disciplinary history with the IRS Office of Professional Responsibility Compensation & Benefits $100,000–$150,000 base salary , based on proven experience and performance 100% remote — U.S. only Eastern or Central Time Zone Health, dental, and vision insurance Retirement plan with employer match Generous PTO Paid holidays A sanity-preserving tax-season policy Immediate start — we want you fully ramped before January About Callow Consulting Callow Consulting is a full-service accounting firm based in the Baltimore–Washington area .
