Sheriff Sergeant - Patrol Job Description Exempt: No Department: Sheriff's Office Reports To: Patrol LieutenantLocation: 735 S Neely St. Benton, AR 72015 Safety Sensitive: This position is designated as safety/security sensitive and is subject to pre-employment, reasonable suspicion and random drug and alcohol screening. GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION This position is responsible for the enforcement of applicable federal, state and local laws and ordinance in the protection of life and property for Saline County by enforcing traffic and criminal laws, completing reports from citizens, completing accident reports, answering calls for assistance during designated shifts. Functions as an advisor to lower ranking deputies and assists the Patrol Lieutenant's while learning supervisory techniques. This position is designated as a "safety sensitive position" as defined by Act 593 of 2017. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists in patrolling county roads, residential areas, and business districts to enforce traffic and criminal laws and ordinances ensuring the safety of citizens and property; makes arrests and/or issues citations to violators as necessary.
- Responds to calls from citizens in need of law enforcement assistance (i.e., domestic disturbance, criminal mischief, burglaries, crimes in progress, traffic accidents, etc.); makes arrests and/or issues citations as necessary.
- Ensures crime scenes and related evidence are secure; processes crime scenes taking photographs and fingerprints; seizes and impounds property as necessary.
- Receives, tags, and stores evidence, found property, or property maintained for safekeeping in the property room; presents testimony and evidence in court.
- Investigates accidents and criminal activities; research leads through interviews with victims, witnesses, suspects, on-line research, and inspection of property/buildings.
- Prepares detailed incident, arrest, investigation, and related reports; enters data into computer; submits to supervisor for review.
- Completes daily activity report reflecting all work activities completed during shift.
- Assists in the transport of prisoners to jail, to and from court, and to other law enforcement agencies.
- Attends community crime watch meetings and other community activities to promote crime reduction and community-oriented policing by interacting with and educating district residents.
- Reports to structure fires and other emergencies/disasters as necessary to establish control of situation and ensure public safety and security of property; implement emergency and/or disaster procedures; coordinates activities with Emergency Management staff.
- Testifies in court and at hearings concerning investigations and citations and/or arrests.
- Qualifies with use of authorized weapons on a periodic basis.
- May act as a member of a special operating unit including SWAT, emergency rescues, and water patrol; must meet the minimum qualifications and complete required training if placed on these assignments.
- Serves warrants in field and in office as individuals are located.
- Enforces court orders involving actions such as the service of court summons; removal of property; service of
- judgments; and apprehension of individuals.
- Supervises the shift in Patrol Sergeants absence.
- Reviews reports/documents prepared by Patrol Deputies.
- Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

- Starting at a rate of $57,017 annually (84 hours per 14-day period) with holiday pay of $3,759 for 12 recognized holidays for a new hire or an established employee certified by CLEST prior to employment with 5 years of Law Enforcement experience. An established employee is an individual who has been full-time Saline County employee for more than 90 days.
- As with all law enforcement positions, overtime is earned after physically working 85.5 hours during the 14-day work period. All time up to 85.5 hours is paid at straight time and all hours over 85.5 are paid at time and one-half.
- This position is eligible for certificate pay according to the certification schedule and paid the first pay period in December each year.
- Bilingual pay once proficiency has been established.
- This position is designated as a "safety sensitive" position as defined by Act 593 of 2017. An essential function of this position is the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
- Group health, dental and life insurance is paid by the County for the employee's coverage provided the employee obtains a wellness check within designated time frame.
- For employee retirement, the County contributes 15.32% per pay period of the employee's gross towards the employee's retirement through the Arkansas Public Employees' Retirement System.
