Mechanic Shop Foreman

For over seven decades, investor-owned utilities, municipalities, cooperatives, and others have entrusted their electrical construction and maintenance needs to Davis H. Elliot Company, Inc. (Elliot). Elliot is a full-service electrical contractor specializing in overhead and underground distribution, transmission, substations, lighting, traffic signaling, utility locating, and industrial/commercial services. Responsibilities Promote safety, compliance, quality workmanship, and teamwork by maintaining an organized, clean, and safe shop environment. Lead day‑to‑day shop operations and coordinate workflow for mechanics and road mechanics. Communicate professionally with field operations, vendors, and leadership to support equipment readiness and minimize downtime. Act as an on‑hand foreman who directs shop workflow while also assisting with repairs. Assign and prioritize work orders based on urgency, operational needs, and equipment availability. Design and implement plans of action for maintenance tasks, repairs, and equipment upgrades. Maintain work logs, repair orders, and maintenance records. Monitor inventory and order new parts when necessary. Oversee maintenance and repair activities for machinery, systems, and automotive vehicles, including tires and tracks. Assess equipment condition, identify repair needs, and communicate issues that may prevent safe operation or passing inspections. Coordinate vendor support and field breakdown response when repairs cannot be completed in the shop. Perform various inspections, including DOT, PMA, and PMB. Qualifications Minimum of five years of mechanical experience and two years of leadership or management experience. Must provide own tools. Experience in electrical, hydraulics, and diesel preferred. Must have a Class A CDL. Willing to travel when necessary. Able to work 50+ hours per week, as needed. Physical / Work Requirements Ability to work in shop and outdoor environments in varying weather conditions. Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and lift up to 50 lbs. of parts, tools, and equipment as needed. Ability to safely operate shop equipment, tools, and company vehicles. Must be able to respond to urgent repair needs and equipment breakdowns. Benefits Short‑Term Disability and Long‑Term Disability Insurance.
