Develops a full understanding of the drug distribution system and demonstrates competency in carrying out all duties associated with delivering medications to the patient care areas. Uses related computer software, gains experience in the interpretation, verification, order entry, compounding, and dispensing of pharmaceuticals and pharmaceutical supplies. The Pharmacy Intern may also be involved in disseminating drug information.Essential FunctionsParticipate in interdisciplinary rounds.Work collaboratively with the treatment team to maximize individual patient outcomes.Counsel patients on prescription and over-the-counter medications and devices.Monitor medication therapies through performing profile reviews, interpreting laboratory values, and ensuring drug regimens are consistent with medication use guidelines and protocols.Assist the Pharmacist in gathering information to advise nurses, doctors, and patients on the proper and safe use of medications.Fills and delivers medications requested by nursing units and, as needed, for the Pyxis automated dispensing machine, after a complete check by a registered pharmacist.Performs good customer service skills via telephone or in person at the Pharmacy window and while rounding on patient care areas.Adheres to HIPAA regulations regarding confidentiality and patient privacy.QualificationsEducationHigh School Diploma requiredCan this role accept experience in lieu of a degree?NoLicenses and CredentialsPharmacy Intern [State License] - Generic - HR Only requiredExperiencePharmacy Experience 0-1 year preferredKnowledge, Skills and Abilities- Ability to learn computer and application skills as applicable to the role.- Ability to interact with and work around people.- Ability to make judgments in demanding situations.- Ability to react to frequent changes in duties and volume of work.- Effective verbal and written communication skills.- Ability to listen empathetically.- Ability to logically organize details.Additional Job Details (if applicable)Remote TypeOnsiteWork Location789 Central AvenueScheduled Weekly Hours0Employee TypePer DiemWork ShiftRotating (United States of America)Pay Range$17.71 - $24.40/HourlyEEO Statement:1810 Wentworth-Douglass Hospital is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
