Job Overview Sr. Administrator, Database – Atlanta, GA. Requires deep understanding of DataStax Enterprise Cassandra architecture and internal frameworks to architect scalable, distributed, and geo-redundant Cassandra database solutions capable of handling millions of transactions per hour. Telecommuting Telecommuting is permitted; however, the applicant must work from the worksite location at least 3–4 days per week. No national or international travel is anticipated. Responsibilities Install, configure, patch, and upgrade Datastax Enterprise Cassandra on Linux servers. Configure backup, restore, and monitor backup jobs using Cohesity. Configure and use Datastax Opscenter, Prometheus, and Grafana for monitoring, alerting, and capacity analysis. Tune the database and operating system for optimal performance; advise developers on schema design for scalability. Administer DSE Cassandra clusters: add, bootstrap, remove nodes; tune consistency, replication, and multi‑DC configuration. Enforce enterprise security policies: create keyspaces, users, and manage credentials. Troubleshoot and tune: latency analysis, thread state, JMX, JVM, compaction, repair; aim 90‑minute resolution on critical issues. Write and maintain shell and CQL scripts; support operational tasks with bash, Python, Ansible, and scripting. Primary Requirements Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field, and at least five years of relevant experience. Alternative Requirements Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field, and at least three years of relevant experience. Skills Requirements Database administration of DSE Cassandra: DSE Core, Search, Analytics/Spark, Graph; security management (LDAP, SSL/TLS, RBAC, audit, encryption); backup and disaster recovery; datacenter failover testing; log/metric analysis. Design, configure, and manage highly available and fault‑tolerant DSE Cassandra clusters on premises and AWS EC2, using Ansible, Terraform, and AWS CloudFormation. Write and optimize CQL scripts, UDFs, materialized views, and schema changes; use CQLSH, DataStax Studio, DBeaver, Liquibase. Automate administrative tasks with Linux/Unix shell, Python, and Ansible scripts. Advanced performance tuning and troubleshooting: JVM and GC tuning, thread management, disk I/O, nodetool, JConsole, DSE Metrics Collector. Monitor and visualize performance, replication health, and cluster metrics with Prometheus, Grafana, DataStax OpsCenter. Deploy and manage DSE Search (SOLR) integration; configure schema.xml, solrconfig.xml, manage SOLR cores. Additional Requirements At least 18 years of age.
