Physical Therapy Assistant
This position is based in the Client Department. The primary focus is on providing Physical Therapy Assistant treatments. Physical therapy is a core service provided by this organization. The role requires performing duties in a professional manner while respecting confidentiality. Qualities endorsed by following the Seven Standards for Service Excellence are essential. Services are to be provided in compliance with hospital standards and licensure requirements. Physical Therapy Assistants (PTAs) work as part of a team to provide services under the direction of a physical therapist. PTAs implement patient interventions as outlined by the physical therapist. They are responsible for obtaining data related to those interventions and making necessary modifications to ensure safety and comfort. PTAs assist in the treatment of individuals of all ages with medical or health-related conditions that limit mobility. The physical therapist develops treatment plans using various techniques to promote movement and restore function. PTAs do not conduct evaluations or testing. This role includes providing services to both in-patient and out-patient populations in various settings. PTAs may review clinical records and may attend care conferences. It is essential to collaborate with other team members for effective care planning. PTAs document findings and treatments according to hospital policies. They direct the work of support staff, students, or interns as required. Education and therapy programs are developed based on patient and family needs. Providing home exercise programs to facilitate self-care and independence is a critical aspect of the job. PTAs assist in administrative tasks and help maintain clinical supplies. Maintaining cleanliness and safety standards is essential. The role may involve working outside clinical settings in community events and home visits. Occasional travel to remote locations may be necessary, possibly in harsh weather. PTAs educate patients and families on therapeutic exercises and equipment usage. Participation in clinical education and in-service training is encouraged. PTAs adhere to regulatory and practice standards set by the appropriate authorities. Demonstration of sensitivity to cultural issues is necessary. Other duties may be assigned as needed. Good judgement and personal skills are necessary for positive interactions with patients and coworkers. The role may require physical demands including lifting and maintaining safety. Exposure to infectious organisms is a potential risk, and appropriate precautions must be taken. Assistance with durable medical equipment fitting based on patient needs is part of the responsibilities. Supervision of PTAs is conducted by licensed physical therapists, ensuring compliance with treatment plans. Documentation of supervision and patient care is necessary. The supervising physical therapist determines the frequency of consultation with PTAs. All personnel must maintain ongoing competency and education standards. This position involves critical communication with various stakeholders and community members. The ability to convey complex concepts in easily understandable language is vital.
