Senior Superintendent

Role Summary The Senior Superintendent will plan, manage, and execute all aspects of significantly complex or multiple projects. The position is responsible for managing the team, planning construction sequencing, and meeting project goals to achieve timely and profitable completion. All activities support the strategy, vision, and values of JE Dunn. Key Role Responsibilities – Core Lead the company’s safety culture and create awareness by demonstrating commitment to an injury‑free environment. Manage subcontractors and organize overall job workflow. Oversee company staff, subcontractors, suppliers, and programs such as Safety, Quality, and EEO. Develop work plans for subcontractors and self‑performed work. Coordinate and manage the care, custody, and control of the project site. Lead daily stand‑up and weekly trade meetings. Attend, manage, and participate in progress and project OAC meetings. Create, manage, change, and implement the project schedule in conjunction with the Project Manager. Track and monitor project budget and costs using the project management system’s reports. Communicate key project information to owners, design teams, governing authorities, subcontractors, suppliers, and other departments. Maintain project filing and documentation, updating drawings, logs, diaries, and inspection notebooks. Approve and/or record unit cost information for weekly reports and complete daily reports, logs, and tracking reports. Evaluate progress on self‑performed work and make adjustments as needed. Manage material and equipment needs for the project. Support MOC (Material and Other Costs) and DLSC (Dunn Logistics Service Center) procurement and approval processes. Assist in the selection of formwork, tools, and equipment necessary for self‑performed operations. Manage timecard approval to ensure accurate hours and proper cost codes. Ensure quality compliance through specifications, setting quality standards, in‑house QA/QC, and external resources. Support project closeouts by supervising pre‑punch activities and coordinating with owner, architect, and governing authorities. Gain understanding of the project pursuit process and methodology. Participate with field operations leadership and the project team in developing and adjusting the project pre‑plan throughout the lifecycle. Partner with field leadership to establish field staffing for assigned projects. Partner with project management to identify schedule and cost impacts of project changes. Participate in negotiation with owner and architect to agree on project changes. Prepare and present for all project review meetings, including monthly reviews and other key meetings. Participate in project buy‑out meetings with subcontractors and vendors. Understand and apply terms and conditions of owner and subcontractor contracts. Identify and recruit top talent. Lead, support, and promote a culture of diversity and inclusion within JE Dunn, ensuring positive implementation of the non‑discrimination policy. Key Role Responsibilities – Additional Core Manage complex stand‑alone or multiple projects from initial planning to completion. Oversee projects with multiple superintendents. Influence and manage delivery results through others. Execute relevant key strategic initiatives supporting company strategy. Provide training and education to support company and regional training initiatives. Engage in business, industry, and community activities to build external relationships. Take a lead role with the project team in the project pursuit process. Collaborate with the marketing team on presentations and marketing activities. Develop new business opportunities and generate future work by cultivating long‑term client relationships. Assume responsibility for management, scheduling, production, safety, and quality on projects or portions of projects. Identify, understand, and actively manage project risks. Use experience and knowledge to identify problems and recommend solutions for team implementation. Manage deliverables from internal resources such as IPS and logistics. Apply fundamentals of construction management to projects. Thorough knowledge of project processes and their support of successful completion. Build relationships with team members that transcend a project. Intermediate proficiency in project management and accounting software. Advanced proficiency in JE Dunn construction technology. Intermediate proficiency in scheduling software. Intermediate application of Lean process and philosophy. Advanced knowledge of specific trades and scopes of work. Advanced knowledge of self‑perform and labor productivity. Advanced ability to manage budgets, maximize profitability, and generate future work through relationships. Knowledge of organizational structure and available resources. Advanced knowledge of layout skill. Advanced knowledge of crane flagging and rigging. Understand document changes and impacts on the project schedule. Build collaborative relationships within and outside the team. Education High School Diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field preferred. Experience 10+ years of construction experience. 8+ years of field supervision experience. Experience leading Lean principles on projects preferred. Working Environment Valid and unrestricted driver’s license required. Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds. May require periods of travel and/or relocation. May be exposed to extreme conditions (hot or cold). Must be willing to work non‑traditional hours to meet project needs. Frequent activity: standing, walking, climbing, bending, reaching above shoulder, pushing, pulling. Occasional activity: sitting, viewing computer screen.
