Lower School Assistant Principal (26-27 SY)

If you want to help prepare the next generation of changemakers, apply today! Capital City PCS' Lower School is seeking a dynamic, equity-driven leader to serve as Assistant Principal. In this role, you will be an important part of our school’s leadership team, fostering a rigorous, inclusive, and joyful learning environment. You will support the Principal in overseeing daily operations, coaching instructional staff, and ensuring that every student—regardless of background—has the support they need to thrive academically and socially. This is a 12-month position which is exempt and therefore not eligible for overtime pay under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. Instructional Leadership & Staff Development Teacher Coaching: Conduct regular classroom observations and provide high-leverage, actionable feedback to improve instructional practice. Data-Driven Instruction: Lead grade-level or department meetings to analyze student performance data and support teachers in planning to adjust teaching strategies accordingly. Professional Development: Assist in planning and facilitating school-wide PD sessions aligned with the school’s strategic goals and the EL Education model. Student Support & Accountability Restorative Practices: Lead the implementation of restorative justice practices to manage student behavior, focusing on growth and community integration rather than punitive measures. Family Engagement: Build strong, collaborative relationships with families through proactive communication and community events. Student Wellbeing: Partner with the counseling and student support teams to monitor the social-emotional health of the student body. Operations & School Management Daily Oversight: Manage school-wide systems including arrival/dismissal, sub coverage, lunchroom procedures, and emergency drills. Scheduling: Assist in the development of master schedules that maximize instructional time and teacher collaboration. Compliance: Ensure adherence to school policies, OSSE regulations, and special education (IEP/504) requirements. Other duties as assigned by principal Requirements Education: Master’s degree in Education, School Leadership, or a related field (required). Experience: Minimum of 4 years of successful K-12 teaching or leadership experience with documented student growth. Prior leadership experience (e.g., Department Chair, Instructional Coach, or Grade Level Lead) is highly preferred. Bilingual Spanish preferred Licensure: Must hold or be eligible for OSSE Admin Credentials in the District of Columbia.
