The right person for this role is friendly, responsive, organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where priorities can change throughout the day. This is not a position where you sit behind a counter and simply enter weights. You will be one of the primary faces of Beacon Recycling and an important part of why customers choose to do business with us again. What You'll Do Build Relationships With Our Customers Greet customers promptly and make them feel welcome. Develop relationships with regular customers and learn their preferences and needs. Communicate comfortably with people from a wide variety of backgrounds. Answer questions about materials, grades, pricing, and Beacon's processes. You will be expected to: Work with a sense of urgency while maintaining accuracy. Transition comfortably between customers and tasks throughout the day. Keep track of details even when the scale is busy. Follow through on open questions or issues. Communicate changes and important information to coworkers. Numbers, weights, grades, customer information, and transaction accuracy matter to you. Like knowing what's expected. You appreciate clear procedures, standards, and training and take pride in following them consistently. Communicate frequently. You naturally keep people informed rather than assuming someone else knows what is happening. Are service-minded. You want customers to feel that they were treated fairly and professionally. Are dependable. You understand that customers and coworkers are counting on you to be here and ready to work. Handle repetition without becoming careless. Even when you've completed the same type of transaction many times, you still pay attention to the details. Can move quickly without becoming sloppy. Respond well to coaching. When expectations or procedures change, you adjust and apply the feedback. What We're Looking For Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Ability and willingness to learn Beacon's metal grades, specifications, pricing processes, and purchasing procedures. Saturday availability as required. Preferred Qualifications Previous weigh-scale or scale operation experience. Experience grading or purchasing ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Scrap metal, recycling, warehouse, manufacturing, or industrial experience. Experience handling customer transactions involving weights, pricing, inventory, or material classifications. Microsoft Office experience. Physical & Work Environment This is an active position that includes both indoor and outdoor work. Employees must be able to: Stand and walk for extended periods. Bend, squat, stoop, and move throughout the scale and warehouse areas. Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Work indoors and outdoors in heat, cold, rain, and snow. Work safely around trucks, heavy equipment, vehicle traffic, dust, noise, and scrap materials. Visually inspect materials and use established testing methods to determine proper metal classifications. Wear required personal protective equipment. Learn and consistently follow all of Beacon's safety procedures. What Success Looks Like A successful Scale Buyer / Customer Service Agent becomes someone our customers trust and our team can depend on. You'll know you're doing well when: Customers recognize you and are comfortable working with you. Customers are greeted promptly and kept informed. Materials are graded consistently and correctly.
