Duties

Help

• Serve as the key proponent in the establishment and maintenance of SSO Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) programs.
• Provide guidance to SSO on compliance with IPC related rules, regulations, and recommendations from federal, state, and accrediting agencies.
• Review existing policies and procedures to identify gaps, outdated information, and areas for improvement.
• Work with internal and external stakeholders to accomplish mission objectives in support of IPC priorities.
• Respond to medical and dental infection control issues and provide necessary follow up to determine root cause, contributing factors, and recommendations for corrective actions.
• Guide the development and implementation of activities and practices designed to ensure appropriate surveillance and other measures are taken to identify trends, clusters, and outliers of relevant healthcare-associated infections (HAIs).
• Participate in risk assessments, including cost/benefit analysis of proposed initiatives for improvement.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
• This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
• This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
• Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.

Basic Requirement for Health Program Coordinator (Infection Prevention and Control):

Degree: Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes evaluating clinical case reviews for adequacy of care as it relates to Infection Prevention and Control; advising on Infection Prevention and Control program development, management, and/or evaluation; and identifying or tracking trends in health care as it relates to Infection Prevention and Control. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience aloneno substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
