Job Description

Serves as the nurse supervisor for the inpatient nursing unit and performs nursing care services.

Supervises and manages nursing personnel, provides direction, instruction and training to staff, assigns work to nursing staff based on priorities. Implements employee performance evaluations, develops work improvement processes, schedules and approves leave request. Gives advice, counsel or instruction to employees on work and administrative matters. Conducts meetings and conference with subordinates. Hears and resolves informal employee complaints. Effects minor disciplinary measures and recommends more serious disciplinary action to higher management. Conducts interviews with nursing candidates.

Evaluates nursing operations and services provided. Develops new unit policies and incorporates evidence-based information into existing policies. Evaluates outcomes of unit programs and investigates problems, irregularities and violations of standards and take appropriate corrective actions.

Ensures nursing care is consistent with IHS standards, national standards of care and Joint Commission (JC) requirements. Serves as a resource to staff, interpreting philosophy, goals, standards, policies and procedures.

Actively participates in nursing department decisions and objectives. Attends supervisor meetings. Prepares and submits reports and records required of the unit.

Provides comprehensive clinical nursing care to patients of all ages including documenting all patient care in an electronic health record.
