Principal Air Quality Engineer

Role Description Arcadis is seeking a Principal Air Quality Engineer to join our Integrated Sustainability and Compliance (ISC) team in our Novi, Michigan office. This will be a hybrid role, splitting time between the Novi office, remote work, and visits to client sites. In this role, you will work directly with key clients and lead Air Quality and Environmental Compliance projects. You will draft client proposals and manage the execution of projects such as air permitting strategy, regulatory applicability and analysis, emissions inventory development, and regulatory compliance reporting. Additionally, you will mentor existing staff, support business development focused on expanding key clients in Michigan and surrounding states, and be willing to travel up to 10‑20% for project and client needs. Role Accountabilities Apply knowledge of federal and state (with a focus on Michigan and surrounding midwestern states) air quality regulations to prepare or manage air permit applications such as Permits‑by‑Rule, minor NSR, FESOP, TitleV, PSD (and PSD avoidance), and Non‑Attainment NSR (and NNSR avoidance). Manage and/or oversee emissions calculations for regulated air pollutants and greenhouse gases to be included in reporting such as emission inventories and Toxics Release Inventories. Support compliance with environmental regulations through projects such as SPCC and SWPP Plan development, NPDES permitting, Tier2 reporting, waste management, and developing environmental compliance programs. Work in partnership with the ISC team to provide strategic multi‑disciplined EHS solutions to key clients. Support client and business development with a focus on expanding key clients in Michigan and surrounding states. Join ISC leadership to ensure application of regulatory knowledge, analytical techniques, and mentorship of junior staff. Qualifications & Experience Minimum of 10 years of experience in Air Quality. Minimum of 5 years of experience in multi‑media environmental compliance. Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering or a related engineering field. Preferred: PE registration or advanced degree in a relevant field.
