Senior Accountant - Remote

About the Role Our client, a rapidly expanding international fintech company, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Accountant to join their remote finance team. This is a fully remote position, offering the flexibility to work from anywhere within South Africa. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in managing and overseeing the company's accounting operations, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records. You will be responsible for a wide range of accounting functions, including financial statement preparation, general ledger management, and compliance. This role requires a self-starter with excellent accounting expertise and the ability to thrive in a virtual work environment. Key Responsibilities Manage the day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll processing. Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS. Maintain the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and completeness of all journal entries. Reconcile bank statements, intercompany accounts, and other balance sheet accounts. Assist with the preparation of tax returns and ensure compliance with all tax regulations. Support internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations. Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures to improve efficiency and internal controls. Analyze financial data and provide insights to support business decision-making. Manage fixed asset accounting and depreciation schedules. Stay up-to-date with changes in accounting standards and regulations. Requirements Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance. A professional accounting qualification (e.g., CA(SA), ACCA, CIMA) is highly desirable. Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a multinational or technology-focused company. Strong knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Xero, Sage Intacct, NetSuite) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Experience with ERP systems and financial reporting tools. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Strong understanding of internal controls and audit processes. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, essential for a remote role. Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet tight deadlines. Must have a reliable internet connection and a dedicated home office setup.
