Waste Management Manager

Job Title : Waste Management Manager Job Summary Supports management of all aspects of groundwater sampling, surface water monitoring, drilling, and well rehabilitation/maintenance waste identification, characterization, collection, storage, packaging, and disposal activities associated with the Los Alamos Legacy Cleanup Contract (LLCC) at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) National Nuclear Security Administration’s Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). This role is part of the Tech2 Solutions (Tetra Tech‑Sealaska Joint Venture) Project Team for the N3B Los Alamos LLC team. Responsibilities include updating purge and poly water inventories, preparing reports, managing waste storage equipment, working with project personnel on waste characterization, and ensuring compliance with RCRA, permit, and other regulations. Responsibilities Update EIMS waste inventory with purge water generated daily. Update poly water storage tank inventory based on status and tank location moves daily. Develop and review internal waste management procedures and guidelines to ensure RCRA and permit compliance. Provide training to internal project staff regarding RCRA and permit requirements. Perform waste site inspections/audits and assessments of drilling and well maintenance operations, recommending actions to ensure regulatory compliance. Administer internal audits and support external regulatory audits. Plan and execute characterization sampling. Guide internal project staff on compliance and management of applicable waste streams including New Mexico Special Waste, RCRA waste, radioactive waste, TSCA waste, and others. Enter required information into LANL’s Waste Compliance and Tracking System (WCATS) or equivalent. Interface with all levels of the client’s Waste Management Team as needed. Maintain and update a drilling program waste inventory spreadsheet. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Skills/Abilities Strong communication, writing, and presentation skills, including ability to author and present technical documents, test plans, project documentation, and training materials. Professional and effective communication with personnel from various organizations. Team‑oriented project environment capabilities. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office software. Education and Experience Bachelor of Science in engineering or environmental science required; high school diploma may be accepted based on experience. 5–8 years of environmental waste management experience preferred. Candidate must be able to obtain a federal security clearance. Working knowledge of DOE waste management software, preferably WCATS or IWTS. Day‑to‑day support of regulations for radioactive and hazardous waste and RCRA hazardous waste permit requirements. Understanding and adherence to LANL and industry regulatory guidance for solid, liquid, hazardous, radioactive, and mixed wastes. Knowledge of regulatory requirements applicable to waste management, including EPA, DOT, and DOE. Vision requirements include close and distance vision. Work Environment Work may require exposure to weather conditions and other elements prevalent at the time.
