About the Position

Job Title: Surgical Tech Profession: Surgical Technology Specialty: Surgical Tech Duration: 18 months Shift: Third Shift Hours per Shift: 10 hours Experience: No experience required License: BLS Certifications: None specified Must-Have: Completion of a Surgical Technology Program or Associate's Degree Description: Functions as a member of the surgical team under the direction of the registered nurse. Performs scrub functions and other roles that support the perioperative plan of care. Assures the provision of comfort, safety, and quality perioperative care for the patient. Job Responsibilities: Demonstrates knowledge of operative procedures including draping, instrumentation, suture, and equipment. Aseptic setup and organization of mayo and back table throughout the procedure is essential. Properly counts and accounts for all required items prior to, during, and following the procedure. Anticipates the needs of the surgeon and remains accountable for checking instrumentation, equipment, and supplies prior to use. Knowledge of specific uses of all equipment and supplies used for surgical procedures is required. Seeks information and support for areas of knowledge deficit prior to use. Plans, prepares, and functions in emergency situations efficiently. Ensures that the room is ready prior to the scheduled case. Minimizes turnover time by assisting with preparations for the next case. Is present in the operating room when the patient is brought into the room. Demonstrates knowledge of and utilizes principles of aseptic technique. Assesses the safety and mechanical condition of equipment and reports any malfunctions. Demonstrates competency in handling, identifying, and labeling medications on the sterile field. Properly disposes of sharps, such as needles, blades, and other items. Assists in the proper cleaning, moving, and storage of equipment. Possesses knowledge of sterilization and disinfection techniques. Demonstrates proper cleanliness of instrumentation prior to disinfection or sterilization. Acts in support of surgical conscience where necessary. Actively participates in unit activities. Demonstrates teamwork through a positive attitude and cooperation with team members. Collaborates with colleagues and attends staff meetings as required. Participates in orientation of new staff or students. Submits updates to preference cards when needed. Exhibits constructive use of free time by completing special duties as assigned. Demonstrates initiative in improving department services and keeps up with current advancements. Understands performance improvement and job accountability related to goals. Supports patient safety goals. Attends all required safety training programs. Describes responsibilities related to safety clearly. Demonstrates knowledge of national patient safety goals and guidelines. Completes all assigned safety and education training as necessary. Ensures positive customer relations interactions.
