Our organization’s Maternal Fetal Medicine team is dedicated to delivering advanced care to high-risk patients throughout their journey, from preconception to postpartum. We collaborate closely with specialists in neonatology, genetics, and both medicine and pediatric subspecialties to ensure optimal outcomes.

Responsibilities

As the Director of the Maternal Fetal Medicine Division at our facility, your role will encompass the following:

General Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Department Chair and MFM System Division Director to create, implement, and periodically revise a strategic plan for the division.

• Foster a positive work atmosphere that encourages open communication across all levels.

• Promote a culture of professionalism, trust, and teamwork within the division.

• Oversee the development of essential pathways, protocols, and evidence-based practice guidelines to uphold the highest standards of quality and cost-effective care for our patients.

• Facilitate weekly division meetings aimed at continuous improvement and growth.

• Conduct regular meetings with all division staff, including clinical, research, and administrative personnel.

• Work alongside leadership to address operational issues related to daily functions (e.g., equipment, supplies, staffing) within practices and inpatient units.

• Ensure divisional involvement in departmental initiatives (e.g., Grand Rounds, Peer Learning), hospital, and health system programs.

• Complete annual performance evaluations for practice physicians, assessing productivity and ongoing clinical competency.

• Supervise the Fetal Evaluation Unit, MFM Practice, and associated offsite locations, including:

  • Ensuring proper billing and coding
  • Managing clinical staff, such as ultrasound technicians and nurse educators
  • Maintaining AIUM accreditation
  • Overseeing ultrasound services and consultations at offsite and satellite practices, including telehealth and remote ultrasound readings

Academic Responsibilities

• Maintain necessary medical certifications and ensure the professional knowledge of MFM Division faculty and staff through ongoing education, literature review, and credentialing oversight, including AIUM certification.

• Guide and support the academic progression of divisional faculty and fellows through effective mentorship, feedback, and evaluation.

• Ensure divisional contributions to the department's research and quality initiatives.

• Guarantee that teaching responsibilities are fulfilled with commitment and high quality, monitoring the effectiveness and timeliness of teaching and trainee evaluations.

• Ensure compliance with medical school, residency, and fellowship standards.

• Collaborate with the MFM Fellowship Director to support the fellowship program, including:

  • ACGME accreditation and participation in PEC and CCC meetings

• Establish and oversee inpatient protocols for high-risk patients.

• Work with local and system leadership (e.g., Medical, Nursing, Administrative, Social Work) to align ambulatory care policies and practices across the organization.

• Collaborate with subspecialists for co-management of patients as needed.

• Lead interdisciplinary care-planning meetings for patients facing critical medical conditions during pregnancy.

• Oversee the Prenatal Diabetes Program.

• Partner with Cardiology to enhance prenatal and postpartum care for patients with hypertensive disorders, cardiac disease, and fetal cardiac conditions.

Research Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the System Division Director and System Vice Chair of Research to formulate an innovative divisional research strategy that encompasses clinical, translational, basic science, and health services research, along with grant opportunities.

• Recruit faculty whose expertise and research interests align with the divisional and departmental research agenda.

• Develop a plan, in conjunction with the System Division Director, to address gaps in research funding for investigators and manage shortfalls for those already funded.

• Encourage collaborative research and training initiatives across divisions and departments.

• Monitor the progress of divisional researchers in partnership with the System Division Director and System Vice Chair for Research, as appropriate.

• Ensure adherence to research administration protocols.

Qualifications

• Medical Degree from an accredited institution.

• Valid New York State Medical License.

• Board Certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

• Completion of a fellowship in Maternal Fetal Medicine.

• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Maternal Fetal Medicine.

• Active DEA license.

• Demonstrated leadership experience.

The compensation for this position ranges from $550,000 to $750,000, excluding bonuses or incentive compensation and benefits.
