RN - MedSurg/Tele

• About Facility:


o 1 Medical Center Blvd, Winston-Salem, NC 27157


o 885 licensed beds


o Level 1 Trauma Designation


o Teaching Hospital: Yes, Academic Medical Center


o Chest Pain Center


o Stroke Center


• Unit Information: 4A


o Beds: 8


• Census? Average patients/day? 8


o Minimum Years of Experience required: 1 year


o Will you accept a first-time traveler? Travel experience preferred


• Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:


o General Medical; some Cardiac, Pneumonia, UTI, Chest Pain, fluid overload


• Patient Ratios:


o RN: 1:4


o CNA: 1:8


• Required Licensure & Certifications:


o BLS, ACLS, NIHSS


• Skills required:


o PCA, surgical drains, wound care, telemetry - cardiac rhythm interpretation, Cardizem/Amiodarone gtt experience (will accept without but must be comfortable to learn)


• Support within the Department:


o CNA: Supports the RN by obtaining VS and blood glucose checks; assists with hourly safety rounds and ADLs.


o Receptionist/HUC


o Charge nurse: Charge Nurse is a free floating for the majority. On occasion, may have a full assignment.


o Phlebotomy? Yes, peripheral blood draws


o IV/VAT Team? No, we start our own IVs.


o RT 24/7? Yes, available - will need to page for assistance when needed


o Hospitalist 24/7


o Intensivist 24/7


o Telemetry monitoring/tech? Yes. Telemetry monitors on the unit.


• RNs are responsible for reading/interpreting strips during shift


• Technology/Equipment:


o EMR: Epic


o IV Pump: Alaris


o Med dispensing: Omnicell


o Monitors: No monitors in the rooms.


o Unit specific equipment: PCAs, trachs, complex wound care


• Floating: If yes, where?


o Rehab, 4 Ardmore, 10 Reynolds, 9 Reynolds, 5 Ardmore, Burn-10 North, Throughput Unit


• Orientation (facility and unit) :


o NEO


o 2 days departmental
