Clinical Pharmacist Specialist

The Clinical Pharmacist Specialist will ensure safe, appropriate, cost-effective medication therapies for patients according to evidence-based medicine and following established policies, procedures, and protocols. This role involves daily rounds on patients, reviewing electronic medical records, interpreting medication orders, and performing antimicrobial stewardship activities. The specialist will also prepare and dispense medication orders, contribute to the quality and effective operation of the department, and maintain competence required for the current job title/position.

The specialist will work independently with minimal direct supervision, cooperatively with the health care team and pharmacy staff, and handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule. They will set priorities, make critical decisions, and respond quickly to emergency requests. Effective communication skills, both oral and written, are essential. The specialist will meet the pharmaceutical care needs of various patient populations.

Education: Graduate of an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy with a PharmD degree. Completion of PGY-1 hospital residency preferred, previous experience will be considered.

Experience: At least 3 years of hospital experience as a clinical pharmacist preferred for applicants who did not complete a residency. No criminal record involving drugs or theft. A background check will be conducted.

Certification/Licensure: Currently licensed to practice pharmacy in the state of Kansas. Code Blue Training: This person will be ACLS certified or complete ACLS certification by the end of the probationary period.
