Clinical Research Manager

Job Category: Academic Staff Employment Type: Regular Job Profile Clinical Research Manager Job Summary The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health is seeking a Clinical Research Manager to plan, develop, and direct clinical research operations within the department. The position provides strategic and operational oversight for one or multiple clinical research programs and serves a key role in advancing the department’s mission in reproductive health research, education, clinical care, and advocacy. The manager will oversee clinical trial operations, ensure regulatory compliance, supervise research staff, manage budgets and research portfolios, and support the development and submission of grant proposals and protocols. The role works collaboratively with investigators, sponsors, regulatory bodies, and institutional partners to ensure high‑quality and compliant research operations that support the department’s continued excellence in translational and clinical research. Key Job Responsibilities Plan staff implementation of protocols and ongoing quality review of one or multiple basic or moderately complex clinical research trials or programs. Analyze research portfolios and accounts, solicit internal and external research opportunities, promote unit capabilities, and make recommendations to leadership for strategic program enhancements. Compile audits and document research data to ensure compliance with institutional policies and procedures. Compose, assemble, and submit grant proposals and protocols according to applicable rules and regulations. Exercise supervisory authority for at least 2.0 FTE employees, including hiring, performance management, and approving hours worked. Develop and monitor the program budget and review and approve expenditures. Candidates’ Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Regulatory & Clinical Knowledge: HIPAA, FERPA, GCP, ICH/FDA compliance, IRB processes, and clinical trial lifecycle. Project Management: Plan and manage timelines, budgets, risks, and multiple concurrent studies. Leadership & Communication: Lead cross‑functional teams, resolve deviations/issues, and engage sponsors, sites, and stakeholders effectively. Technical Proficiency: EDC, Florence, OnCore, Team Work, REDCap, Arrow, RAMP, Qualtrics, Excel, and Advarra Participant Payments. Core Abilities: Strong organization, quality focus, attention to detail, adaptability, ethical judgment, and decision‑making. Required Qualifications 5 years employment experience in Clinical Research or Clinical Trial management. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree, preferably in Life Science/Healthcare. Compensation and Benefits Starting salary is $80,000 annually, negotiable based on experience and qualifications. Employees will receive benefits such as vacation, holidays, sick leave, competitive insurances, savings accounts, and retirement benefits. Employment Conditions Work may be performed in‑person onsite at a designated campus work location or remotely at an off‑site, non‑campus location. The position is a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations. The selected candidate must pass an initial caregiver check and re‑check every four years.
