Buyer/Planner Job Title Buyer/ Planner Department Supply Chain Reports To Purchasing Manager FLSA Status Exempt Location Endicott, NY Revision Date 4/21/2026 Job Description Summary: The Buyer / Planner provides day‑to‑day tactical support for purchasing and production planning activities to ensure material availability and smooth production execution. It also fills a logistics lead role in logistics by overseeing daily activities related to inventory management, shipping, receiving, and returns. This role ensures that materials, components, and finished goods are handled efficiently, accurately, and safely to support production schedules and customer delivery requirements. This role focuses on purchase order processing, schedule maintenance, data accuracy, and cross‑functional coordination rather than supplier strategy or demand ownership. The position works closely with buyers, planners, production, and inventory teams to help meet customer delivery commitments. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Purchasing / Buying Support Create, release, and maintain purchase orders for direct materials and components based on system recommendations and planner/buyer direction. Track supplier order acknowledgements, delivery dates, and open order status. Follow up with suppliers on late, short, or incorrect deliveries and escalate issues as needed. Maintain accurate purchasing data in the ERP/MRP system (pricing, lead times, MOQ, supplier confirmations). Assist with resolving invoice discrepancies and receiving issues. Support inventory replenishment activities to prevent material shortages or excess. Production Planning Support Assist with maintaining daily and weekly production schedules in ERP/MRP systems. Monitor work order status and flag material or scheduling conflicts to planners. Verify material availability prior to work order release. Update lead times, routings, and bills of material as directed. Help coordinate priorities between production, purchasing, and inventory control. Support engineering change implementation by ensuring correct material setup and timing. Inventory Control Maintain accurate inventory records for raw materials, WIP, and finished goods. Oversee cycle counting and physical inventory processes to ensure accuracy. Work with production and purchasing to resolve discrepancies and maintain optimal stock levels. Monitor inventory transactions in ERP or MRP systems and ensure proper documentation. Shipping & Receiving Supervise all shipping and receiving activities, ensuring on-time delivery and compliance with packaging, labeling, and documentation standards. Schedule and coordinate outbound shipments with carriers and freight providers. Inspect inbound materials for accuracy and quality; ensure timely entry into inventory. Maintain shipping logs, tracking information, and carrier performance metrics. Data, Reporting & Continuous Improvement Run standard reports related to open orders, shortages, inventory levels, and schedule adherence. Provide accurate and timely information to buyers, planners, and production supervisors. Participate in inventory accuracy and cycle count support activities. Assist with continuous improvement efforts related to planning, purchasing, and material flow. Perform other duties as assigned by management. Qualifications Education & Experience Requirements Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Operations, or related field preferred but not required. 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing, supply chain, or materials role. Skills & Competencies Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar preferred). Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Strong attention to detail and data accuracy. Ability to follow standard processes and work instructions. Good organizational and time‑management skills. Clear written and verbal communication skills.
