San Mateo County Health invites you to apply for the position of Nurse Practitioner . Overview As part of our teaching hospital, you will provide integrated medical, dental, mental health, and chemical dependency treatment to patients in a variety of settings, including the Behavioral Health and Recovery Services (BHRS) division, Correctional Health Services division​, Public Health Policy and Planning division, and the San Mateo Medical Center and Clinics. Key Responsibilities Conduct complete physical examinations, develop diagnostic impressions, and manage patient care in specialty areas such as geriatric, pediatric, family health, or OB/GYN practice. Assess patients’ physical, emotional and social status, take complete medical histories, perform physical examinations, initiate screening and diagnostic procedures, and evaluate laboratory results. Collaborate with physicians and other health professionals to diagnose and treat health problems, and refer patients requiring immediate medical attention to the appropriate practicing physician. Coordinate and facilitate referrals to other health or social agencies and maintain accurate records of assessments, follow‑ups and evaluations. Supervise the work of subordinate health workers and participate in professional and administrative meetings. Actively participate in quality improvement processes within your work area and perform related duties as assigned. Extra‑Help vacancies at Innovative Care Clinic, Ron Robinson Senior Care Center, Coastside Clinic, OB/Gyn, and the Daly City Clinic Pediatric Clinic. Knowledge and Skills Principles, practices and procedures used for detection, diagnosis and treatment of common health problems in your specialty. Fundamentals of clinical medicine for your specialty. Knowledge of drugs commonly used in the area of specialty, including indications, anticipated therapeutic effect, side effects, untoward reactions and contraindications. Safety and infection control practices. Interpretation of laboratory test values and clinical significance. Operations and care of medical equipment and instruments used in your specialty. Laws and regulations applicable to nursing and medical practice. Community resources and referral systems. Provisions of the Nurse Practice Act. Education and Experience Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. Education: Completion of an advanced nursing degree from a CCNE or NLNAC accredited program, with emphasis in a Nurse Practitioner specialty area. Experience: Minimum one (1) year of paid experience in acute and/or ambulatory care. The minimum experience may be substituted by: Completion of 200 hours of direct preceptorship at the San Mateo Medical Center or 400 hours of preceptorship at an organization with comparable county‑level or FQHC experience. For OB/GYN positions, a minimum of five years of clinical experience as a Registered Nurse within five years from the date of application. Licensure and Credentials California license as a Registered Nurse. California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) Nurse Practitioner License. California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) Furnishing Number. DEA Number. Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. For OB/GYN assignments, a Nurse Practitioner License may be substituted with a Nurse Midwife License and at least one certification in women’s health specialty. Special Certification (if applicable) Pediatric – primary health care for patients 17 years of age and under. Family – primary health care for patients of all ages. Geriatric – primary health care for older patients. OB/GYN – women’s health or primary health care for obstetric and gynecologic patients.
