The clinic seeks to develop effective interventionists judged by their ability to create change. Graduates leave with a deep professional network and the ability to work both independently and on interdisciplinary treatment teams. The fellowship provides invaluable client hours needed for licensure while ensuring the pre-licensure period is focused on professional development, not just working. \n\nThe signature pedagogy of the interdisciplinary mental health profession is clinical supervision. In contrast to graduate school where much of the learning is from classroom instruction, the majority of the learning on fellowship happens during applied practice and within the context of the supervisory working relationship. Most of the learning occurs within the confines of one’s professional practice and regular clinical supervision. The clinic does host intermittent didactics, but “training” does not mean that fellows will be provided step-by-step guides or detailed procedural guidance, as that would be developmentally inappropriate for trainees at this level, especially independently-licensed PMHNPs. \n\nFellowship activities are intentionally targeted to provide training in the following foundational areas: \n\n Professionalism\n Ethical, Legal, & Policy Issues \n Individual & Cultural Diversity \n Relationships\n Scientific Knowledge \n Reflective Practice \n Interdisciplinary Systems & Interprofessional Collaboration \n\nAdditionally, the fellowship helps clinicians develop their skills in the following functional areas: \n\n Selecting Effective Treatments\n Assessment, including problem & treatment formulation \n Psychotherapeutic Intervention \n Leveraging Supervision & Consultation\n Teaching Others \n Self-Management & Effectively Working in Organizations\n Advocacy\n\nThe Post-DNP experience is distinctive in that fellows receive weekly collaboration from both a psychologist and either an advanced practice nurse or psychiatrist. This allows for an interdisciplinary blend of learning and services. The DNP track is distinctive in that it offers supervision in psychotherapy in addition to the provision of medication management services. \n\nThe Lorenz system is particularly well suited to relationally- and systemically-minded clinicians who want to learn more about leveraging the interpersonal process to bring about change. Lorenz Clinic sees the spectrum of mental health issues across all walks of life. The training experience is constructed such that fellows work with a diversity of issues and clients to maximize learning. The practice enjoys deep, special relationships with referring clinics that have grown to trust the clinic to deliver a high level of interprofessional collaboration and specialized consultation. \n\nThe Post-DNP fellowship is structured as 0.2 FTE training-related activities and 0.8 FTE PMHNP role. 0.2 FTE of the role is spent in training-related activities that includes:\n\n 1 hour per week of consultation with a PMHNP or Psychiatrist\n 1 hour per week of psychotherapy supervision with a psychologist\n 4 hours of consultee-focused case consultation per month\n 8 hours of fellowship cohort seminar per month \n 1 hr/wk of didactic seminar\n 1 hour of Grand Rounds per month\n 2 hours per quarter of invited practitioner series \n Ad hoc continuing education events \n\nThe role also includes 0.8 FTE time spent in direct patient service. This involves 25.6 completed clinical hours (1536 min.) per week, which can be a mix of 60 min. diagnostic assessments or 30 min. Follow-ups. There is also 2 hrs/month of team meetings. The client contact hours represented in this section is the minimum expectation. The other hours in this section are general, on average; the exact number of hours will vary depending on program need, scheduling constraints, etc.. The start date of various training series is dependent on when each cohort is convened and effectively onboarded. \n\nNote: training outcomes are aspirational and not guaranteed, as they are a function of myriad factors including trainees’ prior preparation, learning goals, personality traits, commitment to learning, openness, flexibility, and so on. \n\nThe Role\nFellows function in an applied, clinical role providing services to clients in an outpatient setting. The postdoctoral fellowship is a 1-year, full- time, salaried clinical position that prepares doctorally-prepared trainees for independent clinical work post-licensure. The fellowship represents the final year of intensive, formal training before independent practice. The fellowship is truly the culmination of many years of preparation and hard work, and is meant to help prepare you for your first position. Core clinical activities include carrying a patient caseload that includes adults, children, couples, and families. Fellows discuss prior to the Fellowship the expected goals for the Fellowship, which may include ages and populations for psychotherapy and psychological assessment cases (if assessment is a stated goal). \n\nJob duties include but are not limited to: \n\n Provide psychiatric services including diagnostic assessment, treatment planning, medication management, psychotherapy, and discharge planning \n Provide individual, couples, group, or family psychotherapy as assigned by supervisor based on prior preparation, established learning goals, and program need\n Attend and actively participate in individual and/or group supervision, case consultation, Grand Rounds, business meetings, and other meetings \n Conduct at least two formal, scholarly presentations during the two-year fellowship, one to colleagues and one to the public \n Other duties as assigned\n\nThere is no call with this position. This is a full-time, salaried, W2, in-person role.Requirements:\nThe most successful candidates will have evidenced a track record of sequential, scaffolded learning experiences aimed at a career as an advanced practice nurse. Interpersonally secure, open, flexible, curious, service-oriented candidates will likely experience the best training outcomes. Candidates with the potential to have a positive impact on the profession itself will be given higher consideration. \n\nThe position requirements include: \n\n A doctoral degree (Ph.D. or DNP) degree in nursing from a regionally-accredited academic program \n CNP and PMHNP designations in Minnesota prior to start date\n DEA number and completed payer credentialing at Lorenz prior to start date\n The availability and ability to work full-time in person \n\nCompensation\nThis training role enjoys a reduced caseload, which the $120,000 stipend is a reflection of. This reduced caseload allows time for new entrants into independent practice to think, learn, and assimilate to post-degree practice. The role is meant to be a learning placement, a proximal step into practice-- not a maximum caseload/salary from the start, which never portends good things for the transition and learning.
