Pediatric Speech Therapist

Summary of the Job Diagnoses and evaluates speech and language skills as related to educational, medical, social, and psychological factors. Plans, directs, or conducts habilitative and rehabilitative treatment programs to restore communicative efficiency for individuals with communication problems of organic and non-organic etiology. Provides counseling, guidance, and language‑development therapy to handicapped individuals. Reviews individual files to obtain background information prior to evaluation, determines appropriate tests, and ensures sufficient data is available. Administers, scores, and interprets specialized hearing and speech tests. Develops and implements individualized plans for assigned clients to meet their needs, interests, and abilities. Evaluates and monitors individuals using audio‑visual equipment such as tape recorders, overhead projectors, filmstrips, and demonstrative materials. Reviews treatment plans, assesses performance, and modifies, changes, or writes new programs as needed. Maintains records as required by law, the establishment’s policy, and administrative regulations. Attends meetings and conferences and participates in activities to promote professional growth. Instructs individuals to monitor their own speech and provides ways to practice new skills. Minimum Qualifications Master’s degree in Communications Disorders or Speech‑Language Pathology from an ASHA‑accredited institution. Licensed, or eligible for licensure in the state of Louisiana. Licensed by the Louisiana State Board of Speech‑Language Pathology and Audiology. Working knowledge of computer software, including word processing and spreadsheets. Scheduled Weekly Hours 20 hours per week; schedule will vary based on patient volumes. Physical Demands Must possess good physical health. Standing, sitting, or walking for long periods. Lifting at least 50 pounds. Constant physical effort (talking, hearing, seeing) 67‑100% of time. Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, climbing stairs or ladders, balancing, stooping, crouching, reaching, handling.
