NSC Staffing immediate opening for a Diesel Mechanic in Birmingham, AL Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and dependable Onsite Diesel Mechanic to maintain, diagnose, and repair diesel-powered trucks, trailers, and heavy-duty equipment at a designated facility. This role focuses on preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair work to ensure fleet reliability and minimize downtime.

Schedule

• Monday Friday
• 7:00 AM 5:00 PM
• Some overtime required based on workload and breakdowns

Pay Rate

• $30 $35 per hour depending on experience
• Overtime paid at time-and-a-half where applicable

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repair on diesel engines and systems
• Complete preventative maintenance on fleet trucks and heavy equipment
• Repair and replace components including brakes, suspension, hydraulics, and electrical systems
• Conduct DOT inspections and ensure compliance with safety standards
• Use diagnostic software and mechanical tools to identify issues
• Maintain accurate service records and repair documentation
• Communicate with fleet managers regarding repairs and vehicle status
• Ensure tools, shop area, and equipment are maintained and organized
• Respond to urgent repair needs when required

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a diesel mechanic or heavy equipment technician
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, transmissions, and hydraulic systems
• Ability to use diagnostic tools and repair equipment
• Valid driver's license with clean driving record required
• CDL preferred but not required (depending on facility needs)
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
• Strong problem-solving and mechanical aptitude

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift 50100 lbs regularly
• Work in indoor shop and outdoor environments
• Standing, bending, kneeling, and working under vehicles for extended periods
• Comfortable working in varying weather conditions when needed
