Job Summary A Respiratory Therapy Extern is a full‑time student in an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program who works at the hospital in addition to clinical studies. Under the supervision of a Registered Respiratory Therapist, the extern performs basic tasks learned in class and practiced in school. These tasks have also been practiced with demonstrated competency during clinical rotations at a Tenet hospital. Upon graduating from the Respiratory Care Program, the employee must pass the Board Exam and obtain a state license within six months of graduation. Completes established competencies for the position within the designated introductory period. Other related duties as assigned. Qualifications MINIMUM EDUCATION: Must be a full‑time student in good standing in an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program. Employee must provide a letter of good standing every 90 days or consent to an updated educational background check. MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: Successful completion of academic and clinical competencies specific to each task. REQUIRED COURSES/COMPLETIONS (e.g., CPR): Must have active healthcare provider Basic Life Support on hire (ARC or AHA); must have AHA Healthcare Provider BLS within 60 days of hire.
