Step into a dynamic educational environment as a Special Education Science Teacher specializing in high school biology and chemistry. This full-time contract position for the upcoming 2026/2027 school year focuses on serving students in 9th grade biology and 10th grade chemistry. You'll work near the heart of DC, fostering an inclusive, engaging classroom for learners with diverse needs. What you'll bring:
- Active certification (or eligibility) in Special Education, with experience at the high school level.
- Deep content knowledge in general science, particularly biology and chemistry.
- Prior experience teaching or supporting students with varied learning needs in special education settings.
- Familiarity with both traditional classroom management and innovative co-teaching practices.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to adapt to changing classroom dynamics.
Your responsibilities:
- Deliver engaging biology and chemistry instruction to 9th and 10th grade students, ensuring all learners can access and thrive in the curriculum.
- Collaborate closely with general education teachers as a co-teacher and independently manage self-contained classes.
- Develop creative lesson plans and instructional materials tailored to students’ Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and learning styles.
- Monitor student progress, adjust instructional approaches, and provide feedback to help each student reach their potential.
- Foster an inclusive classroom culture that celebrates every learner’s abilities and achievements.
