Certified Firefighter/EMT- Basic, Advanced or Paramedic

Firefighter Position The City of Beaufort is seeking candidates for a full-time firefighter position. The salary range for this position is $50,379.00 - $67,410.00 annually. This position is located at City Hall in Beaufort, SC. Job Description This position involves an extensive hiring process consisting of four parts. Part I includes application review and background checks. Part II involves a physical ability test that is timed and scored pass/fail. Part III includes an oral interview where candidates will answer questions and write a summary of a magazine article. Part IV involves an interview with the Fire Chief. The firefighter will perform fire suppression activities, participate in fire inspections and investigations, maintain records, and respond to emergency medical situations. Essential Functions The essential functions of this position include fire suppression duties, vehicle and equipment inspections, fire prevention education activities, station and grounds maintenance, report writing, staying on call 24/7 for emergencies, operating fire suppression equipment, and interacting with various groups and individuals. When serving as a firefighter/EMT, additional duties include responding to emergency medical situations, performing advanced life support functions, and maintaining emergency medical equipment. Education and Experience Requirements for Firefighter I include a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver's license, an IFSAC Firefighter I certificate, and completion of training requirements. Firefighter II and Firefighter III require all FF-I/II requirements, an IFSAC Firefighter II/III certificate, and completion of training requirements. EMT certification is preferred for all levels. Additional Information This position requires the ability to communicate effectively, deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions, and perform under stress in emergency situations. Physical requirements include operating various machines and equipment, remaining on feet for extended periods, and working under hazardous conditions.
