Company Description The Vanderbilt Institute for Spatial Research (VISR) is a core research facility that provides geospatial analysis and geophysical survey services for projects within Vanderbilt University and for clients in Nashville, middle Tennessee, and across the United States. VISR engages in interdisciplinary collaborations spanning the social sciences, humanities, medicine, public health and epidemiology, STEM education, environmental health and science, and engineering. Projects are conducted both domestically and internationally, offering team members exposure to a wide range of research contexts. The institute is equipped with advanced geospatial computational resources, including high-spec workstations, multiple servers, and a broad suite of commercial and open-source software tools. VISR also maintains a diverse pool of geophysical and land survey instruments to support cutting-edge spatial research. Role Description The Program Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in Nashville, TN, responsible for coordinating and overseeing VISR projects from initiation through completion. The person in this role will manage project timelines and budgets, facilitate communication among faculty, research staff, clients, and external partners, and ensure that project deliverables align with institute standards and goals. Day-to-day responsibilities include organizing workflows, tracking progress across multiple projects, scheduling and leading meetings, maintaining documentation, and supporting proposal development and reporting. The Program Manager will also help optimize use of VISR’s computational and survey resources, assist with prioritizing requests, and contribute to process improvements that enhance operational efficiency. This role may involve occasional support for outreach activities, training sessions, and collaboration-building across departments and disciplines. Qualifications Program and project management skills, including planning, prioritization, coordination of multiple concurrent projects, and budget tracking. Strong organizational and administrative abilities, with experience maintaining documentation, schedules, and stakeholder communications. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the capacity to interact effectively with researchers, technical staff, and external clients. Familiarity with geospatial or research environments, such as GIS, spatial analysis, or scientific research operations, is highly beneficial. Proficiency with standard office productivity and collaboration tools (e.g., spreadsheets, presentation software, project tracking platforms). Demonstrated ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and solve problems in a dynamic, interdisciplinary setting. Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., geography, environmental science, public health, engineering, management, or related disciplines); advanced degree or equivalent experience in research administration or program management is a plus.
