Registered Nurse must have strong charge experience. The role will include taking care of labor and delivery, recovery, postpartum, and women's health patients, as well as the care of recovering babies. Responsibilities include managing high-risk obstetric cases and transferring patients for major maternal or fetal complications. The unit has 18 labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum rooms, 6 triage spaces, and 8 beds shared with the medical-surgical overflow. There are also 2 operating rooms where nurses self-circulate. The Registered Nurse will follow state guidelines for nurse-to-patient ratios. Ratios are 4 to 1 for couplets, 3 to 1 for stable antepartums, 2 to 1 for labor and delivery, and 1 to 1 for deliveries. Every delivery will have a second neonatal resuscitation nurse present. The electronic medical record system used is Cerner. This role has the responsibility of overseeing the care delivery in the unit. There will be an expectation of weekend shifts and holiday coverage. Nurses are required to wear navy blue scrubs. Nurses will perform antepartum, labor and delivery, and postpartum duties. The unit averages approximately 250 births per month and has a commitment to perinatal safety initiatives. The facility does not allow elective deliveries before 39 weeks gestation. Evidence-based practices are a priority, including maternal mental health screenings and initiatives to reduce primary C-sections. A dedicated lactation support store is available on campus. All staff will float between roles including labor and delivery, postpartum, and women's health. There is round-the-clock coverage for obstetric and anesthesia care. Registered Nurses will be required to be flexible regarding shifts and duties. Common diagnoses include high-risk obstetrics with potential needs for advanced interventions. The nursing team is focused on maintaining high standards of patient care through regular chart audits and adherence to safety initiatives.
