Registered Nurse – Medical/Surgical

Schedule / Job Type

Contract | Nights | 3x12-hour shifts | 36 hours per week

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in a general Medical/Surgical unit with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5–6 using a primary nursing care delivery model
• Manage and monitor patients presenting with diagnoses including stroke, GI bleed, COPD exacerbation, acute/chronic renal failure, sepsis, diabetes, hip and ankle fractures, CHF, pneumonia, oncology, and post-operative care
• Assist providers with and/or independently manage bedside procedures including chest tube setup and care, wound vacs, thoracentesis, paracentesis, peritoneal dialysis, central line placement, tracheostomy care, CPAP/BiPAP, CBI, and incision and debridement
• Administer and monitor medications including heparin, Lasix/Bumex drips, Cardizem/Lopressor/Labetalol IV push, Coumadin, Lovenox, insulin, and TPN/PPN
• Utilize EPIC for all computerized charting and documentation
• Float to other nursing areas as needed based on census and scope of practice

Required Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse license in North Carolina or a valid Compact State license
• Current BLS certification
• NIHSS certification
• Proficiency in IV insertion
• Ability to comply with local area radius requirements for travel assignments

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Prior travel nursing experience
• Experience with EPIC electronic health records
• Familiarity with common Med/Surg equipment including Alaris IV pumps, Omni feeding pumps, and SCD machines
• Experience assisting with or managing bedside procedures such as chest tubes, wound vacs, and tracheostomy care
