Job Overview Job Type: Permanent Position: AVP, Team Manager – General Liability and Property & Casualty (GL BI and PD) Reporting to: Claims Director, Property & Casualty Band: II Locations: Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Hartford, New York, Scottsdale Flexibility: Permanent Travel: Hybrid – requires two days in the office weekly Key Responsibilities Effectively manage the claims and claims volume through proper staffing of the team and active oversight of the claims, including assessing and allocating new incoming claims, reopened claims, and claims that may need to be transferred due to severity or complexity. Implement and execute Hiscox’s Best Practices, including reserve-setting and reserve timeliness, comprehensive coverage analysis, and developing claim-handling strategy in alignment with KPIs. Drive KPI adherence and Hiscox’s Best Practices through managerial diary and file audits. Review and approve coverage correspondence, particularly matters involving coverage denials and sensitive or complicated coverage issues. Focus on litigation management and strategy within the direct team and across the wider Claims organization to achieve effectiveness and efficiencies of scale. Identify, assess, and escalates key issues, trends, and emerging risks impacting the US business to senior claims management. Establish collaborative relationships across leadership, within Claims as well as other business areas. Hire, train, motivate, and coach employees to provide excellent claim service while continually assessing performance and providing feedback and training opportunities. Act as the escalation point for customer and broker concerns or complaints to facilitate efficient resolution. Assist the Director in preparing and presenting reserve analysis and claims trends while participating in the feedback loop between Claims, Underwriting, and Actuarial teams. Lead through change and manage uncertainty, addressing challenges and implementing solutions. Partner with internal and external stakeholders, including Actuary, Underwriting, Legal and Risk Control. Create and maintain training programs that enhance product innovation and improve claims processes. Required Skills and Experience At least 10 years of experience in handling claims. JD from an ABA-accredited law school may count as additional claims handling experience. 5+ years of experience in Commercial General Liability claims, including Bodily Injury and 3rd Party Property Damage. Construction Defect and/or New York Labor Law experience is a plus. 4+ years of Claims management experience. Expert knowledge of claims handling practices: coverage analysis, litigation management, and negotiation. Excellent analytical, critical thinking and communication skills. Strong engagement, rapport, and relationship-building skills. Advanced analytical skills for evaluating coverage and executing claim-handling strategies to achieve optimal results. Demonstrated initiatives to enhance product innovation or improve claims processes. Technical leadership skills to address challenges from reports or external partners. Experience managing through uncertainty or change, implementing solutions. Mandatory Insurance adjuster license(s), or willingness to obtain them. What We Offer 401(k) with company matching.
