Senior Data Engineer

Tempus seeks a Senior Data Engineer to build and operate the data platform for a multi-modal healthcare AI system. The role spans pipeline development, warehouse management, cloud infrastructure, and TypeScript services—requiring ownership across the full stack in a HIPAA-regulated environment serving federated hospital networks.

Responsibilities

• Design and build data pipelines ingesting EHR, genomics, and imaging data for real-time agent evaluation
• Own BigQuery warehouse and dbt model layer, including data quality, documentation, and transformation standards
• Develop TypeScript services and APIs that coordinate AI agents and handle clinical data input/output
• Build and operate Google Cloud infrastructure using Terraform, including BigQuery, Pub/Sub, Cloud SQL, and IAM governance
• Implement data quality monitoring, lineage tracking, and observability to ensure traceability and transparency in automated clinical evaluation

Requirements

• Strong data engineering foundation with production pipeline and warehouse experience
• Proficiency in Python for data pipelines and SQL for transformation logic
• Demonstrated expertise with Google Cloud Platform services and infrastructure-as-code
• Full-stack capability: comfortable writing TypeScript/Node services alongside data work
• Experience modeling multi-domain data and working with healthcare data formats (FHIR, HL7, DICOM)
• High ownership mentality with ability to work independently and surface ambiguity early
• Familiarity with event-driven architectures and messaging systems at scale
