Respiratory Therapist, Registered

Responsibilities These roles are responsible for evaluating, treating, and caring for patients with breathing and cardiopulmonary disorders. Respiratory therapists provide oxygen therapy, manage ventilators, conduct breathing exercises, and monitor lung function to ensure optimal respiratory care. Key Responsibilities Collaborative Care: manage care and implement treatment plans in collaboration with patients, families, physicians, and other team members. Professional Growth: embrace professional development through formal education, certifications, and professional organization participation. Innovation: apply technologies that support patient care and implement evidence‑based practice and new knowledge from respiratory research. Physical Demands Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequent traveling and bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; attention to detail and ability to write legibly; able to lift/push/pull 20–50 lbs; possible exposure to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease. Education & Experience Graduate of an accredited respiratory therapy educational program. Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Therapy required within 5 years of hire/transfer after 2019. 12 months of acute/critical care respiratory therapy clinical experience required. License & Certification Active Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential with the NBRC. Licensed to practice in Virginia. American Heart Association BLS certification required. Active NBRC Specialty Credential (e.g., RRT-ACCS, RRT‑NPS) required within 2 years of hire for Medical Center Respiratory Therapists; ACLS required for TCH Respiratory Therapists within 3 months.
