Mail Room and Copy Specialist - Oakland

About the Opportunity Job Summary This position is responsible for performing mail handling and sorting tasks in the Mail and Copy Center at Mills College at Northeastern University. The mail handling and sorting functions consist of a variety of duties in the collection, processing, and distribution of intercampus, commercial carrier, and United States (U.S.) Mail, with an emphasis on accurate and rapid processing. Job requirements include the ability to operate high-volume copier and printing equipment daily, receive job requests over the counter and electronically, and utilize computers to coordinate, print, and meet established deadlines for copying-related projects. Supervision is provided by the Mail and Copy Center Office Manager, who provides advice and assistance on difficult problems and reviews work for satisfactory performance in accordance with U.S. Postal regulations. This position plays a significant role in supporting sustainability programs and creating a vibrant campus life. Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities Collect, process, and distribute intercampus, commercial carrier, and U.S. Mail accurately and efficiently. Operate high-volume copier and printing equipment on a daily basis. Receive and fulfill job requests submitted over the counter and electronically. Utilize computers to coordinate, print, and meet established deadlines for copying-related projects. Demonstrate professional discretion and preserve workplace confidentiality. Work collaboratively or independently as needed, following oral and written instructions. Complete work assignments on schedule and take appropriate steps to sustain effective working relationships across the campus community. Minimum Qualifications Required High school diploma or General Educational Development (G.E.D.) equivalent from an accredited institution and one year of related experience California Driver's license valid with a safe driving record Familiarity with basic computer programs such as Outlook, Teams, and Microsoft Office Suite Solid communication and interpersonal skills Excellent customer service skills Ability to follow oral and written instructions and complete work assignments on schedule Preferred 2–3 years of experience in a mail or print center, or a comparable administrative role Knowledge of United States Postal Service (USPS) rules and regulations Knowledge of typical equipment used in a Mail and Copy Center, including postage meters, cash registers, and high-end digital copiers Physical Requirements Ability to work in an environment with noise and vibrations from equipment operation Ability to perform frequent walking, standing, climbing, lifting, stooping, and carrying of equipment, tools, and materials Ability to reach vertically and horizontally above the shoulders Ability to lift and carry heavy objects up to 50 lbs.
