CNC Mill Machinist

This role focuses on machining new and repair parts to precise print specifications using CNC vertical mills and horizontal boring mills in a high-volume, clean, and climate-controlled shop. You will set up, operate, and adjust CNC equipment with Fanuc, Mazatrol, or Tosnoc controls to produce medium-sized components for large control flow valves within tight tolerances.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC vertical mills and related equipment to machine new and repair parts to print specifications.
• Run a CNC vertical mill with Mazatrol controls or a CNC Johnford vertical mill with Fanuc controls, ensuring accurate and efficient production.
• Operate a Toshiba BP 150 horizontal boring mill (HBM) with Tosnoc controls when required, focusing on precision machining tasks.
• Machine medium-sized parts for large control flow valves, primarily square or rectangular components, performing top milling, facing, and drilling operations.
• Handle parts ranging from approximately 15–25 inches outer dimension and weighing between 30 and 1,000 pounds, using proper setup and handling techniques.
• Perform complete machine setups, including fixturing, tooling selection, and program loading, to meet job specifications.
• Make program edits and adjustments as needed to maintain dimensional accuracy and part quality.
• Machine parts to tight tolerances down to ±0.001 inch, verifying dimensions and quality throughout the process.
• Use Fanuc or Mazatrol controls and apply G and M codes to operate and adjust CNC programs effectively.
• Cross-train to run a standard CNC lathe with Fanuc controls, supporting additional machining needs as required.
• Collaborate with team members and supervisors to prioritize work, resolve machining issues, and maintain production flow.
• Follow all safety procedures, maintain a clean work area, and contribute to the overall organization and efficiency of the shop.
• Work extended hours and night shifts, including weekends when needed, to support high production demand.

Essential Skills

• At least 5 years of experience as a CNC mill machinist.
• A minimum of 3 years running a vertical mill.
• Proven experience performing complete CNC setups and program edits.
• Demonstrated ability to machine parts to tolerances of ±0.001 inch.
• Hands-on experience with Fanuc or Mazatrol controls.
• Proficiency with G and M codes for CNC programming and operation.
• Experience operating CNC milling machines, including vertical mills and vertical machining centers.
• Experience operating CNC lathes, or strong willingness to cross-train on CNC lathes with Fanuc controls.
• Ability to safely handle and machine parts ranging from 15–25 inches OD and 30–1,000 pounds.
• Capability to work extended hours and night shifts, including 60+ hour weeks when required.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience running Johnford, HNK, or SNK brand vertical mills.
• Experience operating a Toshiba BP 150 horizontal boring mill (HBM) with Tosnoc controls.
• Prior experience machining components for large control flow valves or similar industrial equipment.
• Comfort working in a high-volume environment with significant overtime when workloads are high.
• Interest in cross-training on additional machines and expanding technical skill sets.

Work Environment

The role is based in a clean, air-conditioned shop designed for comfort and productivity during long shifts. You will work with CNC vertical mills, including Johnford and similar brands, as well as a Toshiba BP 150 horizontal boring mill with Tosnoc controls, all equipped with modern control systems such as Fanuc and Mazatrol. The position is an open-ended contract expected to run through the end of the year and well into the following year, with the potential to convert to a longer-term arrangement depending on workload and performance. The schedule is primarily night shift, running from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., Monday through Saturday, with some Sundays as needed. When busy, you should be comfortable working 13 days on and 1 day off and regularly exceeding 60 hours per week. The shop emphasizes safety, organization, and proper handling of medium to heavy parts, and you can expect a professional industrial environment with appropriate work attire for a machining and manufacturing setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Houston, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $31.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
