With more than a decade of experience in AR innovation, we have made groundbreaking advancements in text legibility, color fidelity and rich digital content visuals while continually expanding the field of view to create engaging, immersive AR experiences.The opportunityAs a Senior Equipment Engineering Technician (Etch) within our Manufacturing Engineering team, you will play a critical role in maintaining and optimizing plasma etch systems that are essential to our waveguide manufacturing process. This is a highly hands-on role focused on maximizing tool uptime, resolving complex failures, and driving performance improvements in a cleanroom environment.You will partner closely with Equipment Engineering, Process Engineering, and Operations teams to support high-volume manufacturing and ensure stable, repeatable tool performance.What you'll doPerform advanced troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance on plasma etch systems (Plasma-Therm or similar dry etch tools)Diagnose and resolve issues across vacuum systems, RF power delivery, gas flow systems, and plasma processesTroubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic subsystems, including motors, pumps, valves, sensors, and PLC-controlled systemsSupport tool recovery and uptime efforts, minimizing downtime in a high-volume manufacturing environmentExecute and continuously improve preventive and corrective maintenance proceduresPartner with Process and Equipment Engineers on tool optimization, experiments, and process stability improvementsAnalyze equipment performance data to identify root cause and recurring failure modesSupport vendor interactions and escalations, including remote diagnostics and onsite service coordinationTrain and mentor junior technicians; develop SOPs and technical documentationEnsure compliance with cleanroom and safety protocolsWhat you'll bring5+ years of hands-on experience supporting semiconductor manufacturing equipment, with a strong preference for etch toolsDirect experience with plasma etch systems (Plasma-Therm, Lam, Applied Materials, or similar)Strong understanding of vacuum systems, RF / plasma systems, gas delivery, and process tool integrationProven ability to troubleshoot complex systems across electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic domainsExperience with PLC systems, sensors, alarms, and system-level diagnosticsComfortable working independently in a fast-paced, high-urgency manufacturing environmentFamiliarity with cleanroom operations and protocolsExperience documenting maintenance and work orders in systems such as CMMS or equivalentIt's exciting if you also haveExperience specifically with Plasma-Therm etch toolsPrior support of high-volume semiconductor or advanced manufacturing environmentsExperience with RF matching networks, mass flow controllers (MFCs), and vacuum pumps (turbo/roughing)Exposure to process troubleshooting alongside engineering teamsAll your information will be kept confidential according to Equal Employment Opportunities guidelines.All legitimate Magic Leap email communications will end with "@ magicleap.com ".
