Overview Sentara Obici Hospital is hiring a Clinical Nurse Manager for our Ortho Spine Bariatrics Unit in Suffolk, VA. The RN Clinical Manager for Ortho/Spine/Bariatrics oversees daily operations of one or more clinical areas, ensuring patient safety, quality outcomes, and a positive patient and family experience. The role includes interviewing, hiring, developing, and retaining staff to build a highly reliable team, and coordinating unit budgets, purchasing, and payroll processes. The position requires effective communication and collaboration with colleagues to meet unit and corporate goals. Hours are primarily 8-hour days with 24/7 accountability, and some flexibility to meet with evening, weekend, and night shift staff is expected. About the Unit 1 East Surgery Unit is a 24-bed unit specializing in orthopedics, spine, and bariatrics, designed to provide high-quality, short-stay care. The team also sees high-acuity surgical patients from Endoscopy, General Surgery, and GI. Average patient stay is 1 to 2 days. The RN staff typically operates at a 1:5 or 1:6 ratio with an average of 6 to 8 patient discharges per shift. The environment emphasizes ongoing staff development through a comprehensive orientation program, with biweekly meetings between managers and educators to refine learning strategies and enhance clinical skills. The unit is supported by Patient Care Technicians, Unit Coordinators, and experienced preceptors to foster professional growth and long-term career advancement. Our surgeons and team are nationally recognized for excellence through MBSAQIP accreditation. Responsibilities Responsible for the daily operations of the unit(s) and ensuring excellent patient safety and quality outcomes. Supervises patient care services staff, including interviewing, hiring, developing, and retaining staff. Assists in development and monitoring of the unit budget; coordinates purchasing and payroll processes. Serves as a clinical resource to team members and fosters effective communication to achieve unit and corporate goals.
